They are real, but not nearly as exciting as I presume they once were.
Siem reap still has them out west. They are really just restaurants /bars ( good , reasonably priced food, standard fare) with huts and a line-up, 20-25$

There used to be a bunch of run down Vietnamese coffee places near the Marady Hotel that was basically a chicken farm. I'm pretty sure they were all evicted in 2013 when they built the new over pass and re did the street though. I'd be willing to bet they re opened in new locations somewhere near the outskirts of the city.
So if there isn't one in Phnom Penh, somebody much, much older please explain the origin of "Chamkarmon" (chicken farm ...), there must have been one.

No bites? Disappointing!
Chamkarmon (not Chamkarmo-an) is the royal reference to King Sihanouk's house (in front of Japanese Embassy)

Interesting, on double checking my flimsy memory with another local, apparently Chamkarmon can be literally translated as the "Silkworm Farm" - the plot thickens for the chickens!

The best tokalok fruit shakes in Cambodia are made up at the Chicken Farm in Chineseville.

My friend told me there was a big chicken farm, with a rough choice in battambang, around the area of the seven armed statue, and another, with better offerings outside of pailin.
He knew of the koh kong one, but that sort of thing isn't my thing.
