There needs to be viable opposition to create a rough election.
Therefore, no, the July election will be smooth.

It's gonna be a one horse race. I'd bet a million bucks HE will gallop to victory again and again if I could.
I'm going with smooth, but with the lowest voter turnout in the (short) history of Cambodian elections. Saying around 60%, due to the opposition (illegal) boycott campaign and general voter apathy.

What's illegal about calling for a boycott of the elections, pedros?
How can the opposition (CNRP) boycott the elections or even do anything illegal? They don’t exist in law.
Rainsy was telling Cambodians that if they voted for any party that wasn’t CNRP (which isn’t even a choice) they don’t care about democracy or the future of Cambodia. Instead he was telling them to boycott the vote or as most normal people call it “not voting”. Idiot.
Then there’s uncle Veasna who just shouts and creates videos of images depicting hardship, death and destruction. Mostly from movie clips.
I predict - HE will get in (obvs) and will rule for one more term. The last couple of years of his term his son HE Hun Manet, will be more vocal about politics and will by his pops side more. He’ll then take over and rule for around two terms where my wife will become the first female premier. I’ll be there by her side (in my flip flops and singlet. I’ll get her to issue a decree that in every Friday and Saturday they’ll be free beer for barang, excluding French.

“The propaganda calling people not to vote violates the country’s laws that are stated [in Article] 142 of the Law on Election of Members of the National Assembly,” he wrote on Facebook on Friday.
Article 142 says it is illegal to “deter” citizens from registering to vote or to cause “confusion resulting in the loss of confidence in the election”.

Nothing, but that hasn't stopped CPP officials from labeling "not voting" as illegalsounds_never_seen wrote:What's illegal about calling for a boycott of the elections, pedros?

Yeah, I read that article as well. Is what Rainsy said 'deterring' people from voting?!
I thought the law was about physically deterring, like not having people's names on the voter list, telling people they voted already while they haven't, or scaring them by having soldiers at the polling stations etc. SR just reminded people of their constitutional rights.
IMO it's just the usual local perversion of the law, maybe even paired with misunderstanding of foreign political principles.
HE is craving for legitimacy since the 80ies, but he fails to realize that this can't be enforced. The harder he tries, the less he gets it.

The problem is, no one knows, but expect a lot of armed soldiers guarding major roads in Phnom Penh during the days before and after the election.unterunter wrote:Well? Could be region by region and consequences?
The days afterwards will be a bit unpredictable, but if shit hits the fan it will be in Phnom Penh. It's almost the only city in Cambodia with enough people to create mass demonstrations the CPP might fear.
