Aeon 2 Opened Yesterday
I lived in a multi story building surrounded by huge villas. There was a pool on the roof and great views over swampland to the north and north west. I saw a wild cat near the building, there was quite a lot of wildlife. And on our corner with the main road was a great really cheap Khmer BBQ. Across the road a gas station with cheap beer.
And I never met an Australian or any other barang. Occasionally there were teacher types eating at the BBQ place with Khmers. But they always looked at me disapprovingly because i was with the Khmer princess. It is similar in Cairns, we cop a lot of shit. She is tall and
spectacular and I am short and old. People can be pretty rude, men and women. Envy and jealousy, it's a terrible thing.

I was there today.
Most units are open, seems to be good access to it, served by big wide roads. Motorbike parking is sufficient.
Inside the mall it is big and spacey but some parts of it are very noisy. It seems bigger than AEON 1.
I ate a slice of pepperoni pizza, this was the highlight.
Overall a positive experience, I give it seven pineapples, with space for it to improve to nine pineapples once all the units open and there aren’t so many bloody people around.

They might have just been concerned for your well-being. Vulnerable old fella gets extorted by serpentine local lady, and not long after flies off high balcony straight into swamp. They had your back dude. That area has built up a whole lot since but you'll still find plenty of swampy ground.crazyjohn wrote: She is tall and spectacular and I am short and old. As for Aeon, I don't like that Aeon on Sothearous, it's noisy as hell. I dive into those places and get what I need and get out. I appreciate the air-con and relative normality of malls here compared to the chaotic streets/ shops/ markets, but they are generally just soulless shit-holes.
I'm sure it will do fine though, the catchment area is as affluent as it gets in this city.

^ perhaps she'd stolen their wallet/phone/laptop after they banged her in their hotel room one time?
Does it have a bar? My kids are about old enough to go ice skating or to the cinema on their own for an hour or so and it's nice to take a libation while they do so. Aeon 1 choices are pretty awful, always thought it a shame that Metro didn't see fit to open there.

There are plenty of places which sell booze, but I don’t remember seeing anywhere which I’d class as a bar.slavedog wrote:Does it have a bar? There are plenty of coffee/tea shops but not sure about a bar.
Ended up taking the kids to the new cinema at Exchange Tower this afternoon. This ticks a lot of boxes. Good location, plenty of parking, nice building inside, VIP theatre. And best of all, Hard Rock downstairs. It's happy hour 4 - 7. My bill for a few beers and a couple of margaritas was about 12 bucks.

I only noticed that cinema in the past couple of weeks. If you look at their website it is labelled as "Premium" but actually the seat and popcorn/ soda prices are cheaper than any other place in town. I can only imagine they are trying to get the place on the map before raising prices to a more realistic level.slavedog wrote:Ended up taking the kids to the new cinema at Exchange Tower this afternoon. Let's hope they put a Hooters in there. Maybe an IHOP. Maybe Pappa Johns.slavedog wrote:Ended up taking the kids to the new cinema at Exchange Tower this afternoon. This ticks a lot of boxes. Then you can ignore Asia altogether.

You might not have noticed, but Slavedog has lived here for a long time and lives in a very much Khmer neighborhood, where you might not see a barang from one day to the next. He might like his luxuries, but he is firmly rooted in Asia. You sound like some naive tourist who just rolled in on the last banana boat, good luck with that.Pu Li wrote:Let's hope they put a Hooters in there. Maybe an IHOP. Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
I would rarely set foot in any of these places if it weren't for having kids. But as I do, it doesn't seem fair to deprive them of normal activities just because we're in Asia.

The prices seemed very reasonable. Unfortunately I screwed up a bit. I took them to see Deadpool 2,thinking it was a kids movie, turns out it's not! But star wars was on, but VIP only so it ended up costing me $13 a ticket (no kids discount). Includes all you can eat popcorn and drinks, though.Lucky Lucan wrote:I only noticed that cinema in the past couple of weeks. So a more expensive afternoon than planned, but the kids enjoyed the VIP experience, and I enjoyed the new outside bar at Hardrock.
