Maybe there would be a difference in the wording of the t and c's, you would have to be Khmer not Cambodian, but even that would not be fair.Miguelito wrote:I wonder what would happen if a white guy with a Khmer passport won.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:$50 to enter a race, you win and get a $10 case of Angkor, a box of Angkor Pura water and a box of Sponsor electrolyte.Miguelito wrote: A case of beer isn’t bad! But, yea, that’s pretty lame overall.
Whilst the 7th place overall but first Khmer runner gets $150 prize money (having paid only $10 to enter).
Now sponsors are getting more in on it and Sketchers have given a pair of shoes, Smart give a phone card and a crappy smartphone (which you can hardly give away never mind sell) and maybe some tiger balm.
It’s funny watching the runners who have turned up on their moto trying to work how how the hell they are going to get all the stuff home.

Blott de tama fåglarna har en längtan, de vilda flyger.
Competition - Cambodian style. If you can't cheat in one way, cheat in another.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:when the first Khmer runner is often far, far behind the podium places. Even if they just gave a free entry to the next event it would be well received....

Khmer track athletes struggle for any meaningful sponsorship income and hence the prizes at the various events serves to supplement their income. It also acts as an incentive for younger athletes to engage in long distance running as a sport.
Thanks for letting me know. I'm too fat to run myself, but where do we donate our money to if we over-privileged want to help?Prahok wrote:Khmer track athletes struggle for any meaningful sponsorship income and hence the prizes at the various events serves to supplement their income.
