License Plate Numbers
License Plate Numbers
The diplomatic licence plates start with CD and then a number, which is a code for the country. All I know is that the US Embassy employees have CD25. I was told the number corresponds to the alphabetically listing of the country, in French. So the US, "Etats-Unis", is the 25th country.
However, Etats-Unis is the 62nd country alphabetically in French (according to this list). I'm guessing they skipped some countries, realizing that Bosnia would never have an embassy here (or because Bosnia wasn't even a country when the UN came in).
1) Is there a list with all the numbers and their corresponding countries?
2) If not, does anyone know different numbers and their countries?
3) Lastly, anything else about license plates and numbers that is interesting to know? Like, does a certain set of numbers or two letter code mean "connected to the big guy, back off"?

there used to be a list floating around the internets of all the mission numbers here, but I can't seem to find it now
Four identical numbers are the expensive plates “2K 6666, 4K 9999” etc. Big bongs don’t have any plates, or an RCAF plate.
Red plates with yellow border are RHD vehicles.
Red plates with white writing and “AT“ are non diplomatic technical plates.
Plates starting with “ONU” are old UN plates.
Green plates are State plates.
“NGO” and “ONG” are Non Governmentle Orgs.
White with black writing (Khmer script plus alphanumeric) are 90s series plates.

Green text with white background is NEC
Blue background and white text can be either UN or press iirc.
Not seen a press plate.Alexandra wrote:Only if issued in Phnom Penh. A B'Meanchey 88 plate you can even find on a tuktuk.YaTingPom wrote:Four identical numbers are the expensive plates “2K 6666, 4K 9999” etc.

So anyone can get a quadruple digit plate outside of PP at no extra cost?

Saw an NEC plate yesterday. That time again.
Edit: Yeah PRESS is white lettering on a blue plate.

I wonder if Cambodia has a proper embassy in Vietnam?
Their one in Singapore is just a couple of office rooms in a knocking shop (not kidding). Orchard Tower I think.
Next door is the palatial Thai embassy, just to rub it in!

Big colonial era building in Ha Noi, but in utter disrepair. Unlike the Rolls.YaTingPom wrote:I wonder if Cambodia has a proper embassy in Vietnam?

Four or less letters, like "Steve", are $50K.
