evictions in Sihanoukville
Today eviction papers served to 4 businesss in Sihanoukville. All business have a court case on going as the previous land owner will not enter into negotiations for compensation or rerurn of our deposits. The eviction from the ex govonour and previous land owner whom made millions in the sale has now served eviction papers. The land has gone to an okhna who is renting to you guessed it the Chinese for a 500 room hotel.

Eviction notices were just left on the ground outside, rather than handed to anyone involved in the businesses

the majority of the take overs in SHV just seem to be the Khmer renting land long term to the Chinese - the last one I was told about as the site of a former small bakery which has been rented for 10 years....Miguelito wrote:Doesn't sound like the Chinese to rent land to build a massive hotel on, does it? Don't they normally just buy citizenship and buy the land?

Well as i said before, g,g,g,g,game over maaaaan!
Not seing many white faces here now. I wonder how the islands a faring for customers??
Wow ANA travel too? How long have they been here?
Whenever i pop into Mottah travel agents in town there's often a desk top full of Chinese passports waiting to be processed with the owner talking Chinese. I'm thinking they are doing well.
My khmer neighbour said to my girlfriend the other day that she thinks we will be getting booted soon. Only here for 3 more weeks so be interesting to see if i get Chinooked for a 2nd time.
I noticed that the latest buildings seem to be steel framed structures and with steel sheet floors with just a couple inches of concrete poured on top of the sheet. Is that normal for long term structures?

Its a good point there was a book I read by a French guy (maybe an ambassador I forget) from the 1920's about his time in PP. At the time lots of Chinese came and flooded the city, especially Riverside area, and built businesses and became very wealthy, the Khmer at the time were alleged to be like cats, just sleeping all day, eating and ̶l̶i̶c̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶i̶r̶ ̶b̶a̶l̶l̶s̶ . The French didn't mind this as it helped develop the country and they were also too lazy to do this. As a bi-product, many of the Chinese married local girls (hence why so many Sino-Khmer). Anyway, the point is this is nothing new and also nothing to fear. once the dust settles the natural equilibrium will be restored.YaTingPom wrote:400 years ago. TBF they did suffer a bit of a setback in the mid 70's, which they've got over now. My old local history guy told me his wife was singled out for special work duties by the KR because they thought she was Vietnamese, then not allowed to join the apparatus in the PRK because she was deemed to be too Chinese.YaTingPom wrote:400 years ago. Obviously this was 30 years ago he looks like a typical old Sino-Khmer to me.
