Bassaka Airways going under
To the best of my knowledge this has not been reported anywhere, but I’ve heard from multiple people that Bassaka Airways is closing regularly scheduled services.
From what I’ve found out they've suspended all scheduled flights, and you can no longer book online, but they are still running chartered.
I’ve also confirmed this personally with an employee there (off the record).

Went out the same way President Airlines did....quietly.

I saw that online about a week ago. Didn't see it in any newspapers, but appeared to be common knowledge for some reason. Was it Khmer or Chinese owned?

Given their destination list, probably Chinese cash and Cambodian connectionsLexusSchmexus wrote:I saw that online about a week ago. Didn't see it in any newspapers, but appeared to be common knowledge for some reason. Was it Khmer or Chinese owned?

Yes, seen this on FB a week or so ago. Someone put up an FYI somewhere saying their website was not taking bookings. Others chimed in saying they are done flying at the end of the month.

That's the same thread I saw. What always amazes me about Cambodian/Chinese cash is that they have the money to buy/lease airplanes or build huge towers, but apparently never have the money for a proper website or hiring a proof reader for the "English" on billboards and said websites.

Better that they went that way, than going out with a bang - like PMT Airlines ... Flight 241Felgerkarb wrote:Went out the same way President Airlines did....quietly.

Another one of the countless airlines that have set up here and then sunk, nothing new, move along.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

That's because this is Asia and they don't really give a shit whether you understand or not because you need them more than they need you.LexusSchmexus wrote:That's the same thread I saw. This is a good reason to always buy airline tickets from dodgy airlines using a credit card. If the airline goes under, you just file a merchant dispute and get the charge reversed.

I'm fluent in Khmer, thanks. My point is why even bother putting up another language if you don't get it proof-read? What's the point? Some of the billboards with Chinese and English on them are laughable. One fenced off billboard in the riverside by the port is my latest favourite (after the hilarious Olympic Stadium ones). The company's official slogan is even in gibberish! Why not keep it in Chinese (with Khmer)?Pu Li wrote:That's because this is Asia and they don't really give a shit whether you understand or not because you need them more than they need you.LexusSchmexus wrote:That's the same thread I saw. Now, can you give me another great explanation for the shitty 1995 websites please? As far as I know, it's still not possible to book anything on JC Airways. It's not like the technology or know-how doesn't exist locally. Are they willing to pay millions to set up a company, then go cheap and hire some high school kids for website design? Makes no sense either.
