Of course it’s not in the sun but it’s on the 6th floor literally on the roof with a wall around it. Do you think ticket fees paid for electricity costs?
10 customers an hour is a dream. Khmers suffer to use the escalators to get up there. Have you been to Aeon mall?

I don't. It's obvious that a skate rink wouldn't be viable on the ground floor where rents are highest. There was a roller skating rink on top of Sorya Supermarket for years, it was popular. The electrical bill for an ice rink must be horrendous though.I think it is strange to have a skate park on the sixth floor!
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Note to myself, tomorrow.
Move my fridge and freezer to the basement or ground floor to make them more efficient and I will save on electricity costs.

I agree that it's a strange location. Having it on the ground floor (like in most malls across the world) would have made more sense. That way it becomes an attraction in itself, you get more people watching, and thus more people are likely to try it out themselves. The malls in the Philippines have them on the ground floor and they now have local figure skaters as well as homegrown hockey leagues (expats and locals) paying fairly big $$ to rent out the rink for games. Good way to make money is subleasing to such leagues. Ice quality will always be shit in the tropics though. I'm guessing this was a tester rink to gauge costs, local interest and so on. Wouldn't surprise me to see a full-sized rink at Aeon III or some other mall within the next five years.

I'm fairly sure that the whole enterprise has investment from a family member of the ruling party. A very senior member of that party...

$240,000 a year is a lot of tickets and beers for slavedog and family. Sad they closed it.

I have every confidence in slavedog's ability to consume $240k in booze in a year.Alexandra wrote:$240,000 a year is a lot of tickets and beers for slavedog and family. Sad they closed it.

So I was in Aeon 2 last weekend, taking the kids to the Kids Park there. One of the srey sa-arts and I recognised each other from the Ice Park and had a little chat. Turns out they left the Aeon 1 location due to the rink leaking and causing problems for the tenants on the 3rd floor below. They are looking for a new location.
