When it was busy there were a few freelancers around like a lot of places but they weren't employed by George. There were just a few dancers as I mentioned earlier and that caused rumors.gavinmac wrote:Didn't that place have kebabs and hookers?slavedog wrote:I think it was George who spent several thousand dollars importing a fancy doner kebab rotisserie (the first in the country), only to discover that there was nowhere to get the required meat to cook on it.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

When The Heart got closed down for a few months after the shooting, a lot of the freelancers from there started hanging around at Georges, which was good for his business.Lucky Lucan wrote:When it was busy there were a few freelancers around like a lot of places but they weren't employed by George. Unfortunately, once The Heart reopened, they all disappeared back there again.

The rumour was, that the local tax dept decided they wanted a piece of the action, and levied a new (made up) tax on the sale of kebabs. The owner couldn’t afford it and closed, it was a pitta bill to swallow.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Another thing that used to make it fun was going down to the beach. Now that's shafted too.
As exemplified in this thread, it seems to be the memories which are best.

Yup, just a few unpaved roads left, I found myself going up and down one, few times, just for the memories.
I noticed the main Starbucks on 57, was full of Chinese, the irony.

Are you thinking of Anthony's? On the north side of Wat Phnom. I always wondered what happened to that place. Used to have a $5 lunch special of salad, pizza, and a beer, iirc.Mèo Đen wrote:There was a good Italian restaurant with a wood fired pizza oven that I used to frequent about 20 or so years ago. Bar and restaurant owners on the north side of Wat Phnom are up in arms about the Municipality's decision to order them to close within one year "in order to keep safety, order and beauty of Wat Phnom," according to the March 23 announcement signed by Chhay Tirith, Chief of Srah Chork Commune.

I think you're referring to Angelo's, which was great. The owner was Greek. I heard he passed away a number of years ago, but can't be surePlayboy wrote:Just on a corner near the Golden Lions roundabout ?salvajeuno wrote:I remember an Italian fellow with a small restaurant and wood fired outside oven in Sihanoukville...
