medical certificate - HIV positive
I have been offered work in Cambodia; as HIV positive will I be able to get (or bypass) the HIV test? I heard many different stories.
I could also get a full medical check-up (without the HIV as this is not part in Thailand) translated into Khmer.
I would not want to give up my current job in Thailand without knowing that I would get the work permit in Cambodia.
(I am since many years under medication, the virus an be discovered in my blood and I would not infect anyone, even without protection).
Cheers

You have nothing to worry about - there's no real medical exam or certificate that you need. If you want a 10 year license the medical exam consists on an eye exam I passed without my glasses on.Greenhorn01 wrote:I have been offered work in Cambodia; as HIV positive will I be able to get (or bypass) the HIV test? HIV positivity is cause for visa revokation and immediate deportation. What Miguelito meant to say is that there is a required medical examination for getting a work permit and one of the questions asked if you have any transmittable diseases and when you tell them that you are HIV positive you must leave the country immediately.
In other words red name there is dangerously wrong and there is no way for you to obtain a work permit without knowingly lying about your illness and maybe getting caught anyway later and then being dragged through the mud by this and other red names when they write the thread about you. HIV INFECTED LOSER ARRESTED AND DEPORTED FROM SHITHOLE COUNTRY
Just stay away will you?

Labor law Article 261: These foreigners must be fit for their job and have no contagious diseases. These conditions must be determined by a Prakas (ministerial order) from the Ministry of Health with the approval of the Ministry in Charge of Labor.
Really? The last time you addressed me directly was 2 years ago when you called me arrogant, mocked me for supposedly hating to be challenged and that I sit on high horses.Gin&Tonic wrote:Usually enjoy your posts but you're going on the block list for this.
Most of your posts you're slagging people off as if you're morally superior to everybody else. I feel like most your posts is you reviewing other posters, like exactly in this case.
It will be hard to sleep knowing you won't continue.

I respectfully disagree. I have a work permit, but never took a medical examination. Has anyone here actually had a medical examination for a visa or work permit (and, if they did, I believe it consisted of stepping on a scale and taking an eye test, right?)?Alexandra wrote:HIV positivity is cause for visa revokation and immediate deportation. I have also never heard of anyone being found out for this, nor dragged through the mud for it here. Obviously, I agree that there was a problem with foreigners entering Cambodia and bringing HIV and infecting many locals -- those were UN workers in 1992, and knowledge of the disease and preventive measure have drastically changed, and the threat is not the same as then.
What do you disagree with? The law says very clearly that foreigners with contagious diseases may not be employed in Cambodia. It's not a matter of opinion.
A medical examination is required for a work permit application. You can bribe them to make it go away but again, not really a matter of opinion.
Go to the immigration department and tell them you're HIV positive and see what they offer you. I have seen it first hand but I guess you would disagree.

You have seen someone walk into the immigration department and tell them they are HIV positive?
Who said blood test? It's a form you need to fill out. They measure height, weight, chest size and ask you yes and no questions.
I have seen someone deported because of HIV yes. What do you want, full names? The gentleman died in English hospital. Used to run a bar on 108 with a big question mark on its logo.

So, you would agree though, that the OP would be fine in coming here and getting a WP, as long as he's comfortable checking the box that he doesn't have the disease?
What are you talking about I would agree he would be fine? It's illegal to employ someone with contagious diseases. Work permits are not issued to people with contagious diseases. It is both illegal to work as HIV positive and employ someone that's HIV positive.
Sure, if we disregard all the facts and everything that the law says, OP will he fine. Also if we disregard physics, I can fly.
