I now find myself with three Khmers on the payroll - two interns and a guy earning real money by Khmer standards. Plus, one more will arrive in due course. We're talking about office staff.
Has anybody got any tips regarding human resource management Khmer stylee? What to do. What not to do. etc.
Employing Khmer Staff. Do's and Dont's.

I am not sure about office staff, but my experience with the staff in the hospitality industry ....
Rule number one... Family comes first.
If the family says they want your employee to attend a wedding or whatever in the village or if Mother is sick, then off they will go almost at the drop of a hat to answer the call and you will just have to make do.
No point in firing someone you have trained because the next person you train will do the same thing. Just learn to live with it.
Rule number seven....
Be very wary when you fire someone, as a barang they can make some quite enforcable claims for wrongful termination payments.
I would like to post rules three and four but I don't want it twisted that my observations are considered racist by a certain blogger.
Good luck, it looks like your empire is growing...
Have you considered getting a grant from someone for the training you are giving your interns?
cheers,
LaudJohn

I have a copy of the Labour Law (in translation) and can quote it chapter and verse.
Which is more than the Department of Labour can do…
Likewise, commercial registration law, law on taxation, law on intellectual property rights, law on commercial registration…
Damn dodgy translation in some parts of it…

Admiral,
Thanks, I have seen that site before.
My main problem is not me understanding the various laws, it is me then having to explain those laws to the various government departments that are supposed to enforce / regulate them !?!?!
We really should have that beer sometimes soon…
