Warning
Warning
Kids are being deliberately targeted and persuaded to physically harm themselves by a character called "Momo" that appears in their regular web browsing.
There's a layer to this attack that's a double bind in that the kids can't talk to their parents about it.
Be aware.

This all seems to be one big hoax urban legend. Many sites saying it’s all a load of bollocks with no police forces saying that anything has been reported.

This.
There was a program on BBC a couple of weeks back where they looked into allegations that "blue Whale", similar to Momo, had caused numerous suicides in Russia. Not much evidence was found, with most of it just being rumours.

When these new internet suicide/harm hysteria type things come out there’s always parents blaming it for their child suicide. That or video games.
I understand them wanting closure and try to understand why but often there’s never an easy answer.
Sadly the internet, social media and media hype these things up into such a frenzy everyone believes it.

Police forces, you say? PSNI - ask Lucan.
https://www.facebook.com/PSNI.Craigavon ... permPage=1the policeman wrote:Whatever or whoever is behind it, there is no disputing the content being sent is horrendous. The set up can come from countless other apps- anything with a chat function. A 'curse contact' sends a number and tells you to contact them on Whatsapp. One video of such interaction in America I've seen shows an ominous sounding voice recording being sent to a child telling them to take a knife to their own throat. Another threatens family if a 'challenge' is not completed. It's chilling viewing. There are numerous variations and of course now imitators.
Came here to inform.
So long as people are aware that this is happening.
I'm out.

That’s exactly my point.
Many police forces have issued “warnings” but no proof, if any, of anything being found within apps and videos and no proof of any little kiddies killing or harming themselves. Just hearsay and speculation.

I heard that a Filipino kid died as a result of this. Perhaps it is all hearsay, but even so, there will be some vulnerable folk who will do themselves harm when threatened or cajoled. Whatever the numbers or the 'facts' it is always an insidious thing whenever harm comes to someone over an 'app' or a 'game' (think about how many accidents occurred as a result of 'playing' Pokemon Go!)
I don't regard it as an 'Urban Legend' because if real harm comes to real people or there is even a threat/possibility that real harm might come to real people, it is a sick trick.
It only takes one kid to believe that such a threat is 'real' and harm might well ensue, regardless of whether it was a 'trick' or 'legend' or whatever.
(PS - great to see you posting, again, Ct2u)

True. The bigger problem is bullying and kids spending too much time online with little or no checks.

It's a hoax, specifically, but the threat is real if not from the momo garbage. Regular users on youtbue/music.ly are targeting kids like this. It's terrible... and seems to actually be mostly other kids. Parents should monitor their kids access in general, and this serves if nothing else as a good reminder of that.

Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.
