Hi all,
I've recently arrived in Phnom Penh and I'm looking for office work, and I wondered if anyone could help me out with some questions I have on the situation over here.
A lot of the jobs I've seen advertised specify that a degree is needed - is that genuinely the case, or will most companies be equally satisified as long as the relevant experience is there?
Are recruitment agencies the best option in the initial stages, and do they tend to assist with finding work for English speaking ex pats?
I'm a 33 year old male, and I recently finished working as an office and HR manager for 8 years at a large company in the UK, so I have quite a bit of experience.
Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated - in particular the situation as to not having a degree and how hard that makes matters.
Thanks,
Simon

HRInc probably the agency you want to drop a cv with.

Unless you’re placed here by your existing employee it’ll be pretty tough finding a non teaching job.
However, I do know of expats landing pretty good jobs (and not already having been relocated previously) but they are often long termers with a good Khmer skills and contacts.
Coming fresh of the boat you’d be hard pressed as a long nose to get any meaningful employment however there is no harm in trying.
There’s always thousands of graduates who’ll do the job cheaper than you and will already have contacts though family.
Knock on doors, make contacts and good luck!

I would agree that they're not going to land a full expat package with housing, school fees, making 6 figures, etc, but I think they can still find an OK job. If the person coming here has a specialty such as accounting, marketing, etc etc, then I think it's relatively easy after a little bit of time to find something decent. But if they're more of a generalist just looking for a good opportunity, then it becomes harder.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 2:46 pmUnless you’re placed here by your existing employee it’ll be pretty tough finding a non teaching job.

As the OP seems to have extensive experience in HR, I think that if he hits the ground running he has a chance of landing a job HR, but he should also become well versed in local labor laws as quickly as possible.
