Depends.
Are you now, or have you ever been, a fan of kombucha ??

Thanks MaxB, I better go look that story up again. After 50 years it is probably very different from what I remember.MaxB wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 10:49 amThe OutstationHairy-nosed Otter wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 4:59 pm
Great tales, slavedog, and many still true today.
I like the one about the plantation manager and the bookeeper (-or similar roles, i havn't read it for nearly 50 years now).
You have the ending slightly wrong but worth reading again I'm sure you'd agree.
Maugham may have embroidered them but he didn't make these stories up. Like Graham Greene, he was 'unable to invent'.

Do you drink it?

No, I have drunk it before, my dad used to buy it. It's not really a fruit drink, more like a fermented tea.

For me, the really big fundamental change, when it all went a bit bland, was around the time that regular telephone service became available in this part of the world. By and large, that is when the feeling of real isolation, real separateness ended. Around the late 70's in most of SE Asia
Imagine, here solo - no communication back home, no coordinating, no chatting, no urgent messages, no lifelines, no money transfers, no google info. Forget home altogether, you can't even talk to them. You are the inhabitant of another planet now. It was easier to find adventure without a phone.
Sorry to be a boring old man of the worst kind - but at least it means i can get a few cheap thrills by pouring a bit of scorn onto the smarty smartphone adventurers every time I can.

Kombucha is actually quite a decent beverage and avocado on toast is a tasty snack. However there is something about man buns that I just don't get. I view people who have these in a similar way as I view ISIS or Taleban members, they are extremists who need to be exterminated before they kill us.
