Weird FB Feeds from relatives
Weird FB Feeds from relatives
For several years I've rejected all attempts to friend me from the wife's family on FB.
About 6 months ago I said yes to several family members.
It was a decision that was forced upon me as shit was happening in the family group and I needed to be informed and able to communicate with them.
Unfriending them would be a mortal sin that the family could not accept,
So now I just block them for 30 days at a time and review their posts before reblocking / allowing posts.
The stuff they send me is difficult to view at times.
They seem to focus bad news, people being killed or maimed in accidents, other stuff and instances of people suffering. They seem to accept it as a normal part of life and even celebrate the fact that it was not them in the accident and laugh at those suffering.
So, as a point of general discussion.
I'd like to ask this question,
What is it that makes Khmer's so indifferent to the suffering of others.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

That was one of the curious things about the KOW for me - the indifferent crowds that gathered around maimed people (and the stoic like acceptance of it on the faces of the victims).
Would you really see that sort of rubber necking in say a country like Myanmar, where Buddhism is more ingrained?
Sometimes makes you wonder whether all the killing in the Khmer Rouge days was partly a khmer psyche thing?

I was requested to bring back the Thailand Death Magazine by Thai friends in NZ on my frequent trips there. in the 80's . It was a monthly mag that was just horrific, every page death, but they like that, Customs in NZ once checked my bags, and they were WTF you bringing this in? I told them for Thai friends who like this shit, No problem.

Yeah it scares the bejeezus out of me too, especially when my wife delights in some of this stuff.
So I googled "cambodia lack compassion" - nothing academic there but I found this really comforting...
"It is so easy to go from day to day being discouraged by the lack of compassion, the traffic, the dust, the disorder we see here everyday in Cambodia. But God is good. He gives me eyes to see His order"
I hope that helps (- also good for road rage, apparently)

...then he smiled again, and slipped away, further on up the stream
They have been multiple, what I would consider "Avoidable " accidents on my FB feed of late.
Each and every accident, from my point of view, was caused by ignorance / stupidity of the drivers thinking I'm ok to do this. .
What is it with the "KHMER DON'T GIVE A FUCK ATTITUDE" of my vehicle is bigger than you and I am entitled to run you down.

Let me assure you that the fascination with gore is not limited to Cambodia. And you do not go back all that long to have seen the same thing in Europe when executions were public and a day out for the whole family.

Quite right. Not so long ago we used to display the heads of our enemies on spikes for entertainment and to generally brighten the place up a bit. A great way of lifting the national mood.

You can stay friends with them but not follow them so you never see their posts unless you specifically visit their profiles.
You can also put them on your "restricted" list so that you remain friends but they only see your "public" posts.
Follow my lame Twitter feed: @gavin_mac
Just unfollow them. I’ve unfollowed a bunch to avoid the Trump propaganda nuts.

An Indian women that has been in Australia 35 years seemed to take some delight about something in her FB feed.Apparently it was an Indian man that had been sliced in half by something or another & was begging for water.Hairy-nosed Otter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 6:22 pmYeah it scares the bejeezus out of me too, especially when my wife delights in some of this stuff.
Happens everywhere, even among civilised people unfortunately.
Was watching a Doco about Cambodia & people that lived on a rivers edge.
They were proud of their house' ability to withstand the annual flooding. They seemed to take some delight that their neighbours were less fortunate. (Yes they may have had issues in the past etc.)
