OK fine, I can't prove it, just giving back of the same spiel as mr. gotfried, or whoever it is.. no problem I guess it's just the Israeli's causing trouble in the airport, not the whole war torn middle eastern lot, who were so unfortunate to be born on the largest oil field in the world.
It was not my intention to make myself look like a 'bad ass'. I don't like confrontation; I like to mind my own business and try to avoid it.whoosh wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2019 9:35 amGood for you.
Feet on the table is abhorrent and such boorish behavior should be challenged by any self respecting gentleman of grace and aplomb.
However, I am more curious about our lovely slavedog's retelling of said encounter.
You said that after confronting this animal, he "scuttled off", that is to say either by the force of your words or menacing presence, he got up from his seat and either moved or left the business lounge entirely.
I'm thinking that a measured, "Excuse me, this is a public place and business lounge no less, please take your feet off of the table." Would not have left the offending troglodyte feeling that his only response should be to flee the area.
So your story lends one to think that you were quite forceful in your "affrontation". In which one would understand if he was startled and took leave of the area. So as to not further provoke the ire and possibly incur physical wrath from our hero.
So, you're saying that even after a verbally forceful encounter, had he been even more the brute than previously thought, and just up and told you to "Fuck off."...
...You mean to say that you would have just turned heel and sauntered back to your pleather chair and quietly continued to sip your cocktail...defeated?
My suspicion is that our slavedog used a little poetic license in the retelling of what in actuality was a rather benign encounter. Most likely something along the lines of "This is a business lounge, take your feet off the table." "Oh, grumble, mumble-mumble." (feet come down)
But either way, feet were removed from tabletop...well done slavedog. No need to make yourself look like some sort of bad-ass, putting fear in the hearts of the uncultured and causing them to scuttle away at the sight of you.
I was not aggressive or threatening. I think - and hope - he felt more embarrassed than threatened.

Great.
So, come clean. Did he really "scuttle off"?
I like how Tony Soprano handles it:

Yes, some people left and he moved to the table which they had vacated some distance away from me.

I will admit that several words spring to mind when Slavedog is mentioned.
However, confrontational is not one of them.

Ok. No, I didn't see them, but among all the options they have there, why wouldn't they be?
Stay positive, Jep.

Good.
Now we're getting closer to the truth.
Having been justly shamed, his pride wouldn't allow himself to remain in your vicinity so he walked over to a recently vacated seat.
You've got to admit that it doesn't sound like he "scuttled off". As in 'scuttle-off [intransitive] - to run somewhere with short quick steps.'
Whilst were bullshitting, it could have been the musky scent of rancid curry that put him off.
Hahaha, I'll take that as a compliment!
Although strangely enough, I did end up having quite a confrontation on my first night in Manila. I was having a few afternoon beers in Cafe Cubana with a random French expat when some drunk as a lord little Italian struck the girl with whom he'd been having an almighty row with. Instinct took over and I ended up holding him by the scruff of the neck until the security guards came and dragged him away. I think he got off quite lightly, I'm sure had it been in Cambodia or Thailand he would have received a good beating from the natives.

I don't think the precise manner in which he removed himself from my presence particularly pertinent to the situation. However, feel free to continue to speculate if you've nothing better to do.whoosh wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 5:23 pmGood.

Sure it does. And you chose the words to relay the anecdote to this audience.
You could have said, "I called this guy out for being an animal and having his feet up on the table. I guess I shamed him because soon after he got up and left for another table."
But no, you logged onto 440 to spin some yarn about how you presumably made another grown man, "scuttle-off".
Chose your words more carefully next time. So that the story matches reality.
I guess I should be careful.
After making grown men scuttle off, now you're pinning them to the ground and grabbing them by the scruff.
