Electricity Bills - 2019 EdC
So it seems that an awful lot of people on various Cambodia related FaceBook groups are bitching and moaning about increased electricity bills this month and last month - despite the general lack of electricity available for everyone to use during the hours of rolling blackouts.
A lot of a certain type of people are accusing EdC of profiteering and overcharging and generally being corporate thieves.
Other people are quoting science back at them - Lower voltage equals an increased usage of amps/watts/gnomes or whatever
Personally I have not even seen an electricity bill, let alone paid one myself, in many years, so I have no idea what everyone else is paying or even talking about.

I paid $600 in March. This is more than double what I usually pay even though there were endless power cuts and I was not there most of the time (thus no A/C in the office or living room).

This is the down side of getting electricity from the EDC - my bill was always an extra $50 or $60 more over the hottest months, even though I was using exactly the same number of kilowatts.
Here is a useful calculator to help you work out how much each appliance should cost (approx)

The fridge here is the most expensive, costing few bucks a day. It is large and old, and will be replaced with a 0.7m model, which is all we need really. The computer uses less, it depends if it runs hot or not. Scrolling through endless mumbo jumbo online is probably 150-200w pr/h. We have an AC, but in the long run I get a constant cold from running it. But sure is tempting to switch it on these days. Luckily my digital nomad lifestyle allows me to work in light attire,

I asked a staff how much he normally pays for electricity, and he said $100 (and he said he sleeps with aircon). But he's really upset because all week from 12 AM - 4/5 AM the power has been out, so he can't sleep. And it's also out for several hours each day, during the day. Yet, his bills haven't changed.
He said everyone was getting upset that the bills are the same, but with limited service.

How is it more? I don't understand. The EDC rate is always the same (720 riel for low usage, going up in blocks of 20 riel for higher usage)Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 4:50 pmThis is the down side of getting electricity from the EDC - my bill was always an extra $50 or $60 more over the hottest months, even though I was using exactly the same number of kilowatts.

It's the startup of the compressor circuit that cost a lot of power.
An ac compressor may consume 45,000 watts of power while the motor is trying to start - 10 times more power than it uses while running.

Can't argue with that.

For the last time, we have observed popular social network Facebook users have commented on the suspension of power supply in the area and the turn that affects the living as well as the business of the people. Citizens. Regarding the case, Council of Ministers spokesman Tith Sothea posted a questionnaire: "How did the Pol Pot work during the hot days just come down to the blackouts?"
He said, "The Pol Pot period when they were forced to work on a hot day, no night, no family, no air conditioner, no fan, no electricity, no food, enough to survive, now just missed How long does it last? It can come from being comfortable and comfortable with difficulties. However, the Royal Government has been working hard to solve the issue of electricity, which has led some people to face some of these difficulties and asked for forgiveness, tolerance, and tolerance. Problems with the fire will be resolved soon. In fact, the blackouts, no matter how people's houses, ministers, or leaders, my house is already out of the way !!! ".
Can't argue with that.

Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.
Bollocks, peak power is only for a split second, and when it does start up it's only double at most it's running power so a 1 kw aircon would peak at 1.5-2.0 kw.newnewnewbie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 9:50 amIt's the startup of the compressor circuit that cost a lot of power.

45 kw, that's 60 horsepower, the damn thing would explode with that kind of load. But that's all moot point since most aircons here are inverter types and gradually spin up the compressor anyway.
And what's with those wack numbers from the table? Watts are directly convertible to horsepower, and the conversion is roughly 750 watts to 1 horsepower. So a 1/2 horsepower motor would use 375 watts running (not 1000), and a 1/4 horsepower motor 190 watts (not 700-800).

In the hot season, EDC officials have to run their a.c. units longer to maintain 16% temperatures throughout their extensive properties. It's only right that the 'little people' throw something into the hat to help them.

My kilowatts/hr usage has almost doubled since the power cuts started. So my bill has basically doubled over the last month and a half or so. We've had the same daily power cuts as most people. Of course being Cambodia the landlord's or EDC or anyone else has no answers other than to just shut up and pay the giant power bill...
I just paid mine on Wednesday, it was double what it has been for the last 15 months previously.
