Definition of “expat”
Definition of “expat”
With all this “expat 2.0 vs 1.0” stuff, it makes me wonder what actually makes a person an expat.
I’m sure there’s some Webster’s definition of “someone living in another country than their own”, but I don’t really like this definition. Some backpacker that sets up shop here for 3 months doesn’t seem like an expat to me.
To me it’s someone that is living in a country other than their own for at least 1 full year, and working there.
I barely even consider retirees “expats”, they’re more like on extended holidays.

To me it’s someone who’s severed ties back home (still having a bank account is ok) and lives here full time, maybe with an occasional trip home for funerals/weddings every few years.
I see on a lot of people’s FB profiles they put there current place of living (lives in) even if it’s for a few months!
If you’re coming over for six months of the year you’re a tourist or traveler if you prefer.

If only that was all a guy needed to be seen as a success in the eyes of a good woman.

Ha ha, why piss people off with brutal honesty, when you can find and quote it from elsewhere?
I guess digital nomad, is not a real expat then(?)urbandictionary wrote:ex-pat
a person working outside their own country, sometimes on a fat corporate contract, sometimes as a foreign expert, sometimes just as an English teacher.
Often their pay is considerably higher than the locals and they live a life of wanton pleasure while working as little as possible.
Other times, like as an English teacher, they live better than locals but not by much and spend their leisure time searching for the best deals on local beer.
Female ex-pats tend not to get laid and grudgingly accept celibacy. Largely because they don't like the locals and the male ex-pats aren't interested in them.
The male ex-pats often receive underserved hero/rock star status from the locals, especially in Asia, and get more local pussy than they know what to do with. Which is why they ignore the ex-pat females.
Dude #1: "Hey mate, why is that ex-pat chick always so bitter and grouchy?"
Dude #2: "Because she hasn't had sex since she arrived in Asia."
Dude #1 "Really? Damn, I'm in ex-pat heaven with all the local action I'm getting. I couldn't get laid to save my life back in the UK".

Like getting pussy should be a reason to live abroad especially as visa restrictions tighten and wages stagnate.newnewnewbie wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2019 9:20 amHa ha, why piss people off with brutal honesty, when you can find and quote it from elsewhere?

Better perhaps this was true in the 99s but in the 2020s its gonna be cheaper to and easier to life in the west and visit your local knock shop that squabbling over TEFL wages which us around 1000 USD per month, which i can get FREE in OZ just by being un employed...
No point being an expat if your life sucks more than it would at home on the dole..

Is this a fake profile?
You're so off this place, it almost smells like a setup.
But anyway, have a great time in Perth, center of the universe, I guess.

Perthguy is a troll and not a very clever one. Nobody could be this stupid. Living on the dole of about $900 a month is nearly impossible. Where I live a tiny studio costs more than $800 a month and power $150 a month.
A carton of beer is $40, a packet of smokes over $30 and an hour in a knock shop $200.
A pineapple costs $3.50 and they grow just down the road. A Teflers life is starting to look good.

Im just not dumb enough to need to goto live in a third world backwash and live on the equivalent of western civilizations poverty line just for 30 minute of sex a day with a bargirl.
That is dumb.
That is dumb.
