What Would Happen If a Khmer Punched a Khmer Shopkeeper On the Nose for Trying To Cheat Him?
The reason I am asking this question is that while in Vietnam, I had a lot of Vietnamese people complaining to me about the bad service, bad quality products (ie being sold clothes at a high price that later are discovered to have holes in), and overall cheating practices of small shopkeepers in Vietnam.
Apparently, the practice is widespread, and the customers are extremely annoyed at this.
It is also as bad, or even worse, when online shopping with a lot of Vietnamese companies.
As a solution, I suggested they may try and punch the shopkeeper on the nose, as after the offender has had their nose broken a few times, they may choose another business model.
However, I have been told that if they did this, the shopkeeper would just phone the police and pay them to arrest and beat the angry customer.
I was a bit surprised at the police brutality expectation, when after all, it is the shopkeeper at fault.
So, I got the idea that it is the police to blame for all the cheating going on.
Is it true? Are the police the main culprits? And is it the same for Cambodia?

Even though you're probably not Khmer, it sounds like you may have a personal story to tell?vladimir wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 6:51 pmGenius. Pray tell what is racist about Vietnamese complaining about Vietnamese, and me offering a bit of jovial advice, but being surprised at the police being paid by the shopkeeper to beat the cheated customer up?

Thanks, next time I hear a local complaining, I'll tell them that. I feel sure that will calm them down.

It appears that some of the whinging "everyone is trying to cheat me" shower of useless cunts are attempting to migrate back here after being recently banned from other forums. Let them stew in their own shit, there is no reason why we should even humor them.

The OP's attempt to create a thread that steers towards "Yuon shopkeepers are all brutish cheats" is somewhat transparent. At least he's consistent, you have to give him that.

I have been to Vietnam countless times and not experienced this.

Why do you care? Fix your own fucked-up country, which is doing far worse things to more people first. This whole thread is a racist dig at the Vietnamese and the back story is manufactured.Aseriousman wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 7:44 pmThanks, next time I hear a local complaining, I'll tell them that. Just surprised it hasn't been deleted.

The really brilliant thing about this thread is that nobody has any idea what I'm talking about.
They seem to think pricing is important. When anybody who has lived in SEA as long as I have, has no interest in prices whatsoever. They are an abstract notion at best and are fairly boring as a topic.
About a shopkeeper being able to pay the police to have someone beaten up. Now, that's interesting...

The interesting thing about this thread is that everyone knows exactly what you're on about.Aseriousman wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 7:02 amThe really brilliant thing about this thread is that nobody has any idea what I'm talking about.
Your premise is that Vietnamese shopkeepers are generally morally bankrupt, which is why they call the police to beat up cheated customers. You are hoping that posters will discuss the police angle, perhaps tell some stories, which reinforces your premise.
Posters are pointing out that your premise is incorrect in their collective experience (substantial collective experience at that) and hence anything built upon this premise also incorrect.
I trust this constructive feedback is of assistance.
