Torn money
Torn money
Am I an asshole to refuse a very slightly torn bill as change? I don’t want to, but I also don’t want the hassle of the next five places rejecting it.

Don’t accept torn bills as the Cambodians will not accept them from you. Hard to get rid of once you get stuck with one.

My modus operandi is once I get a hundred from the bank or ATM (always in good shape) convert 60 or 70$ into riel and get the change in 10$ bills if possible...20$ bill largest I take. Be careful as sometimes the changers try to slip a not do good one in there...If you complain once they usually frown, twice and they get angry (Cambodian tactic when they are in the wrong).

I've never had that happen. As for torn notes, on the very rare occasion when I've gotten one I just bring it to my bank and they change it for a new one.Be careful as sometimes the changers try to slip a not do good one in there...If you complain once they usually frown, twice and they get angry (Cambodian tactic when they are in the wrong).
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Money changers repair bills all the time....And most are very good at doing it....Have received plenty of notes that have torns repaired, usually with a type of glue....Never had to make a trip to the bank....Also marker marks and ink blotches....

You must look like an easy mark.

I figure a lot of changers buy torn ones at discounts, repair them and change money with them ....Good business sense...Yeah...Real easy mark me.
I always use Scotch "invisible tape" to repair torn notes.
Does a good job, nobody can tell.

I have never been cheated by a money changer here, and I check all of the time when changing money.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 3:24 pmI've never had that happen. As for torn notes, on the very rare occasion when I've gotten one I just bring it to my bank and they change it for a new one.
