There’s a lot of random speculation going on here, and to be honest it’s not really fair on the guy involved. She confessed and I don’t think it’s reasonable to second guess that confession 12 -18 months later.

Pointing out that she clearly didn't stuff the body in the freezer by herself prior to cutting it up isn't speculation, it's a common sense observation.

Yes, one that he himself made on Page 4:

And how can a human body - either intact or dismembered - fit into that tiny freezer and be covered with good supplies? Particularly if it was there for several days.

Earlier it was reported she put the body in her kids room and it was too heavy to lift. If she stuffed it in the freezer before cutting it up - itself hard to believe - how would she get the frozen corpse out?

Also, at the time the case hadn’t gone to court. It has now. Its been dealt with. It’s starting to feel like much of this speculation is driven by personal enmity towards the guy - who I have little sympathy for by the way - rather than solid evidence.

How solid does it need to be? We’re talking about a country where journalists die when trees steal all the oxygen. Cambodia is not exactly the epitome of forensics investigations.

When a white guy dies of a heart attack nobody bats an eye at the claim that it was drug induced. When someone’s friend’s wife kills someone those very same people are demanding a microscopic CSI investigation.

This is the most bizarre known murder case in the Phnom Penh expat community. Of course people will speculate about it for ages.

If the police had even the slightest evidence on the idiotic lump they would have dragged him in also, thinking they have a cash cow to milk. That he wasn’t even arrested speaks volumes. Getting a white American into the system represents a gold strike to them.

Like I said, a lot of the speculation here is driven by malice towards the guy by people who have a personal axe to grind.

Or at least it is starting to look that way.


Edit to add: yes of course it’s natural to speculate on the case. I’m just questioning the motive of some of those doing it. I strongly suspect it has little to do with seeking justice or the truth.

He’s not a cash cow. He was knees deep in debt long before the murder.

I think you’re wrong to believe that cops associate white skin with money nowadays. There are much more broke barangs passing through the Cambodian criminal justice system than there are rich.

White people go to prison because they can’t afford one of the cheapest visas in the world or because they’ve threatened to shoot somebody when they couldn’t pay for their nightly drinking session.

I don't have any particular malice towards the guy but he's a scamming, cheating fucking slob who most likely was accessory to a murder even if he may not have helped with the killing. And the investigation and trial weren't exactly thorough. Chumpchops did ask an interesting question because I didn't see any evidence that there were any parts in the freezer.

I got up this morning, checked my Facebook on my way to morning coffee. And two or three people were sending me things saying "What do you think of the fact that you were called a pencil-necked weasel by a 60 year old man in England?"

And I thought it was a joke. Obviously this hasn't actually happened -- it's some kind of goofy thing on somebody's blog or whatever, because grown-ups don't actually say things like that. And I clicked on the link and I'm suddenly reading Khmer440 and there it is. And I'm expecting him to carry on and call me "Stupid stupid-face," and then tell me he's going to have all his friends see me by the lockers or the back of the schoolyard and I better show up if i know what's good for me or something.

It had that sort of completely mad school bully quality. I kept thinking "Is this some sort of weird joke where my friends have taken a real Khmer440 page and then inserted this paragraph to make me laugh?" And eventually I came to the conclusion that no, this is real.

(I had to google what "pencil neck" is supposed to mean, and this was a great response from someone who was called it. He too didn't know what it meant - that he was a writer or something?)
