^^ chains are heavy and if one replaces every 5k give or take and cleans n oils when needed one should not have a problem.

Sounds like the OP's "friend" is a millennial snowflake.

Also you seem to know way too many details if it really is a friend. Why cannot your supposed friend post for themself?

Crawl off someplace else or harden up cupcake.

More like a lonely middle aged twat I think. It screams mid-life crisis. No self respecting millennial drinks cans of blank panther on a bus, They would have prepared some home brewed kombucha for the trip.

^^ 100lbs is about 45kilos and I still call bullshit as my bike is fully loaded. Both racks ( front and back ) have panniers plus a duffle style bag on top of the racks. As I said the weight is usually about 30k this includes two panniers of clothing - on top of front rack my tent n sleeping bag. Back rack on top yoga mat shoes, mozzie net n inflatable mattress, back left pannier is my kitchen, cooking equipment, spices, fuel n food, back right - bathroom n office n bits and bobs, saddle bag tools, handlebar bag - tablet for maps plus a knife and on the road snacks. Add water bottles another 3 or 5 k scattered around the frame and extra food scattered around the panniers and that takes it up to 35k max 38k.
What are you carrying that weighs another 10k and where do you put it?
My friend's bike has 29-inch wheels, specifically purchased to accomodate the standard case of Black Panther (20 lbs for 24 x 330ml can case)...

Oh, you do yoga. That's so cute...

Tis not the size of the rim but how many spokes it has.
Nothing cute about yoga especially when one has spinal n cervical scoliosis.

How about the chain? carry a spare?
In my experience chains don't ever really break, they just stretch out a bit in various directions over time. When your cassette or crank wear out it's time to replace them but they seem to last well.

My friend concurs.

He's been developing a progressive case of part-time quadriplegia (partly due to having to slave away sitting up hours each day in his "remote work sweatshop" to make enough to pay the Vietnamese visa, and avoid the risk of overstay, and/or crossing borders).

He agrees that yoga - in combination with several piping hot showers and a few lbs of "Dai Viet Black" throughout the day help to loosen thing up enough to mobilize...

How important is the seat comfort riding a bicycle for long periods ?
As I was leaving the supermarket recently I saw/heard a guy soo angry, He had his bike locked, but his seat was gone, stolen. I felt sorry for him, why would they seat your seat? He said the seat was worth $150 , and whoever stole it,knew it.

Extremely. Continue pressure on the spine from a hard seat can destroy the back, and peripheral nerves, etc running from the spine. A gel seat is VERY important for this.

Yup, it's just like the epidemic of smartphone theft - it's the EASIEST thing to lift off someone (without resorting to armed robbery), with the highest ROI. There is no security for the seat, like there is for the wheels (security chain), and the frame, etc. The thugs just flick the tightening lever, pop the post out, stick it in their jacket, and they're off. Good seats are valuable enough to score enough CRANK to lay low for a few days.. Low-hanging fruit...

Without his seat that angry dude would either have to be gay, or walk the bike to the bike shop to buy another seat. Since he was angry he probably WASN'T gay...

My friend would have been angry too, because he's not gay.

It is possible to buy anti theft screws for car licence plates (slows them down. Heads need to be drilled off). Perhaps there are some that fit bicycle seats
