Vlad, surely you read the newspapers and watch the news no?vladimir wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 7:05 pmCan you please post links to these 'extensive studies"spitthedog wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 5:01 pmIgnore the EU haters.
Extensive studies have shown them to be mostly poor, uneducated, racist conts.
And while you're about it, please post details of who funded them?
Because, for 2 years, I worked for a Euro/US-funded group, and only in the last 2 months did I realize it was all a money-making fiasco.
Serious money-making.
Anyway, it's absolute comedy gold watching all these politicians scrambling about on the floor trying to give excuses as to why Britain cannot leave the EU AFTER the British public voted out of it.
It's pathetic. Democracy my arse.

Yet, he's right.bipolar bear wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 10:27 amYou're a smart guy from what I've observed but you are having an absolute fucking mare in this thread.
You really should not post about UK politics, you demonstrably know absolutely fuck all about how it works and you're making yourself look like a stupid, shrill, sloganeering cunt. .
To make statements about "elderly white guys deciding" is embarrassing.
Explain that.
PS the fact that you had o resort to an ad hominem and chav vocabulary says more about you than him, tbh

I would not trust Priti Patel as far as I could throw her- and that would not be very far. She is in bed with the very powerful 'Friends of Israel' group. Her appointment as Home Secretary is the first indication that things in the Johnson administration are, Brexit or not, going to be business as usual for the Brotherhood.
This is one of the basic flaws (there are many) of so-called democracy - once the 'leader' has been 'chosen', all public involvement ends.

I disagree. British people don't want to be involved. They resented the last general election - think Brenda from Bristol - as it was soon after the referendum. British people like democracy, but don't wish to have it disturb them more than once every four or five years.springrain wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 7:26 pmI would not trust Priti Patel as far as I could throw her- and that would not be very far. I didn't say anything about whether or not people 'liked' democracy'. I gave my opinion that it was not as ...erm...democratic as people believed (or perceived) it to be.
If Dreamy Dora from Dulwich and Granny Grimoire from Grantham want to go on believing in such a thing as democracy, that's fine, but I don't embrace it with any particular frenzy. I think what we are sold as 'democracy' is patronising and avuncular.

So, if democracy is an ass, what should replace it?
According to Aristotle, democracy is the fairest achievable form of government.
Kingship is rule by one person, aristocracy is rule by a few based on merit, and polity is a mixture of democracy and oligarchy (impossible). Democracy is rule by the multitude, oligarchy is rule by the wealthy, and tyranny is monarchic rule of a master.
I'm guessing those that rail against democracy, would prefer one of the other above systems? Tyranny perhaps?

“We” when it’s good things and “they, them” (the government, East India Trading etc) when it’s bad (Too many to list!).
The Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis still love the British though!

Communism is the purest form of democracy but human nature soon fucks that up.Chneseexpat wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:21 pmSo, if democracy is an ass, what should replace it?

A benevolent dictator is probably the best anyone could hope for (Singapore and Lee Kuan Yew) but again, human nature soon snafus that as well.
So perhaps animal farm was not that far from the truth.
We are all well and truly fucked no matter what form of government we have. Just try to keep one step ahead of the vet.
Sleep, those little slices of death — how I loathe them.
Tell us how the Electoral College works Mig. I believe each state gets two votes regardless of the size of the electorate. True or not?
