In and out in under 10 minutes. Told me to pick it up one week later. Various visa agents around town had told me it would cost $40-$45 if I did it myself (they wanted $50-$52 to do it for me).

So to save $20 you:

1. visited various agents around town
2. made a trip to the immigration office (by the airport?) and back
3. will have to make another trip to the immigration office and back in a week's time

How much did the taxi or tuk tuk to the immigration office cost and how long did it take? 40 minutes each way x 4 = 160 minutes.

Wolfcreek, you are on a tourist visa but want to negotiate interest rates on long term deposits. If you are not a resident of Cambodia then I think most banks won't even bother talking to you, at least you will be paying a much higher rate of tax on the interest you earn!

I took a Grab there for about a dollar and walked back home afterwards (just over an hour walking, and I walk everyday for my health anyway). I will do the same next week (and also stop by at Closeout near the Immigration office and pick up a couple of things).

I visited one agent here on my street, and another one when renting a motorbike on Street 51 last week (hardly "all over town").

I have nothing but free time on my hands and wanted to see what the reality of renewal is/was so I could post it here for the benefit of others on the site(rather than just sitting at home trolling other peoples posts).

How about one year EOS, anybody knows the "real" cost if you go direct?

I can understand it. It's a mindset issue. Once you get into that high roller lifestyle of taking a taxi everywhere, eating out, money goes quickly. If you're into retirement anyway and time us free, why not? And I personally find walking all over places is great for building a three see map of it in my head.

But I f course it might not be for everyone.

Horace makes lots of assumptions: 1) that I have always been on a tourist visa here; 2) that my earlier question about negotiating FTD interest rates was for my own benefit; and 3) that someone on a tourist visa cannot open a FTD account at an MFI here.

If taking a taxi and eating out at a restaurant is considered a "high roller lifestyle" than I myself feel eternally blessed.
