Is this supposed to be surprising?Non-substantial driving test. Driving school staffed with unqualified instructors. The fact that each motorist becomes "busy busy" as soon as they start operating a vehicle. The list goes on and on.
I once asked my ex brother in law to stop driving like a maniac (between Kampot and PP). He replied that he used to be a taxi driver and has all the skills and knowledge necessary to get us to our destination without any issues. He just forgot to say that he got fired from the taxi gig for totaling a few too many mini vans. My ex asked me one day why her car was having some many malfunctions. I just stared at her brother who thinks that a Lexus SUV is a mix between a formula 1 and a monster truck.
I really don't know what compels Cambodians (and other populations in the region) to drive like a bunch of retards. I understand that we all have a different way of thinking, but that goes beyond cultural differences. It's just plain stupidity (that stems from a lack of education). Kinda like some US states with the open carry laws.

That's interesting if you compare with the US
Cambodia 16 million citizens /5 traffic fatalities pr day
USA 327 million citizens / 100 traffic fatalities pr. day
327/16 = 20
100/5 =20
So about the same..

Until around 2006, my country had a higher per capita number of road deaths than Cambodia.
It's halved since then, thanks to an improved road network and less drink driving tolerated. Plus all the young people left, lol.

I call bullshit. Where did this number come from? The way they drive I would say more like 5 an hour.

Indeed, I vaguely recall a figure of 20-25/day.johnny lightning wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 2:42 amI call bullshit. Where did this number come from? The way they drive I would say more like 5 an hour.
ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

According to this link it is about 7-8 a day. (2013)

Anyhow, if you don't like it here, never move to Africa..wikipedia wrote:The total fatalities figures comes from the WHO report (table A2, column point estimate, pp. 264–271) and are often an adjusted number of road traffic fatalities in order to reflect the different reporting and counting methods among the many countries (e.g., "a death after how many days since accident event is still counted as a road fatality?" (by international standard adjusted to a 30-day period), or "to compensate for under-reporting in some countries"
