Conference? WTF.
Was Migs there?
You should hang out with the proper expats who get drunk everyday and love 50c beers.

Imagine visiting somewhere and being in a constant state of fear, distrust and disgust, then wondering why the locals didn't seem friendly? You reap what you sow.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
These are among the most unenlightened comments I have ever seen on Khmer440, and there have been some major stupids over the years.Ginkgo Biloba wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 3:44 pmMh. It'd be more like "the people at the conferences I attended". I do live in Cambodia.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 2:37 pm“The people you’ve spoken to” in other words “a bloke down the pub said”Ginkgo Biloba wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 12:30 pm"So many white privileged tourists" waw...YaTingPom wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 11:43 amUnfriendly locals?!
There’s a smile and wave on every corner be it an old man, young teen or child.
Maybe they’re a bit jaded in the tourist spots, like Angkor Wat, but that’s to be expected when you have so many white privileged tourists ambling around.
I think you’re getting confused with Thailand. That’s where most people die - tourists and expats - just we never hear about it much.
The people I've spoken to often said that the smiles were fake. There was nothing genuine about the attitude of the locals.
From my personal experience, Thailand has a lot more to offer than Cambodia as far as tourism is concerned. Sure, the Thai Baht is high and the Thai can be absolutely horrible in comparison to Cambodian people, but tourists and expats dying in Cambodia seems to get more international media coverage than tourists and expats dying in Thailand. Go figure.
So you’re not actually living in Cambodia or have even been?
Cambodians are the most friendly SE Asians I’ve met. 30 years ago even the Thai’s smile was jaded and I could feel a sense of foreboding to the attitude towards whites. Cambodians are not at the stage yet.
Of course Thailand has more attractions. It’s larger with a massive population and hasn’t been savaged by a recent war. It also gets four times as many tourists.
As always if you like it so much then stay there with pucket richard. You can be best buddies and mention how great Thailand is at every opportunity.
I find them friendly as well. Like everywhere else, there is a lot of bad apples, but overall, I find them quite simple and cheerful. However, that reputation (being welcoming and smiley) is deteriorating quite rapidly abroad. Read what you wrote: Cambodians are not at that stage yet. They're slowly but surely getting there.
Exactly. Thailand is much larger and is far more populated. Vietnam has also been plagued by a war and colonialism. Rwanda was also subject to a genocide. Yet, these two places are far more developed and cleaner than Cambodia. Vietnam gets far more tourists than Cambodia. I don't know about Rwanda though.
I think you meant "Phuket". I have zero interest in living in Thailand, nor do I have any interest discussing with a person whose best argument is "you don't like Cambodia, then leave." What will be your next argument? Build the wall? Lock her up?
