Struggling from Living in PP to back in US
As the title states..... I'm having difficulty living and adjusting to life in the US. I went to PP in 2016 fucked up and blew all my money eating out at Aeon Mall and spending money on the groceries there. As of right now I'm living in Philadelphia, which is the most ratchet city that I've ever lived in. The people are trashy and unfriendly and racist towards my because I'm tri racial.
I'm thinking about moving back to PP but being more responsible with my funds this time. I miss my $250 apartment all to myself. I'm renting a room in the suburbs of Philly for $550 with utilities included, but it's a room and the landlord is a ratchet cunt.
I've been going from job to job as a server because of bad management and slow periods in business. I'll be working this Xmas season at a fine dinning place, which should give me a grand or slightly less per week. Serving is great fast cash but the stress and turnover is crazy.
I'm looking at flying back out of JFK in the April/May. Is this wise or should I wait till October in US when PP is in Spring? I'll be hunting for a English teaching job to support myself. I'm going to try to come with 5k minus the flight cost of $500.

Weren't you complaining about (a) not being able to find a teaching job and (b) being stuck in Cambodia and having no money for a return flight? If so, why on earth would you want to come back?
You're in your mid 30s, right? Maybe it's time to knuckle down and earn some money, then head back to Asia once you have a lot more than 5k.

Yeah. Sort your life out mate. You’re in your 30s ffs. Prime of your life.
Get your head down and earn some cash for 15 years then retire. At least you’ll have an incentive.
I’m guessing you’ve lived in many cities and moved around blaming everything and everyone but yourself for fucking up.
Sort it out!

Why scrape around for some shitty-paid teaching job in PP. If you insist on throwing away your best earning years, then why don't you teach online, establish a regular monthly income AND then move back to PP and continue your online teaching?
I earn typically $2,500-$3,000 tax-free teaching online (mostly Science lessons to kids in 6 different countries, (er not all at the same time, although that's technically quite feasible).
BTW, in case esteemed members are thinking 'pot calling the kettle black', when I talk about your best earning years - in my 30's and early 40's I worked as a designer of satellite and space hardware systems and antennas
Quite how I ended up at 60 years old teaching Chinese and Russian kids from the middle of nowhere is another story...
Blame it on ex-wife #1!
No, more likely was ex-wife #2......
Er hang on a moment, ex-wife #3 didn't really help matters either!

I’m just feeling heavily jaded with working in restaurants. The money is fast and lucrative, but Philadelphia has too many ratchet types that will ask for tons of ranch dressing on the side, eat 3/4 of the entree and complain that it’s too spicy to get food comped.
I’ve become estranged to my family because of remarriage and lack of support throughout my childhood.
I’m having a hard time rebooting my social life because of lack of a car. The red tape in the US is crazy along with the expense of car payments and insurance. I chose Philadelphia because it’s new city with a fairly decent mass transit system.
The primary reason I’m looking at PP again is sheer cost of living. I’m doing fine where I’m at in life, but yearn for something exciting.
I would have a few credit cards that I wouldn’t touch while in PP for emergency purposes. Flights. Etc.

Was it the individual pieces of sushi that did a number on your wallet? Those high priced bastards!
Freedom is not a state. It is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau.. Freedom is a continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.-John Lewis

“Best earning years”?
He’s a grown man in his thirties and he earns a living as a waiter.
I doubt he is too worried about losing his best earning years.

As an FYI serving can be extremely lucrative because of the quick cash, but it depends on what type of restaurant you work in shit chains like Olive Garden or Chili are crap income with even more ratchets and coupons. I personally work for Cheesecake Factory which tops out at $1500 per week in cash 200-300 per shift in cash.
I’m not into women so no money girls or bar girls. I’m not a No Joke Howard type that’s in denial and does Kathoey LadyBoys.
I don’t do money boys either. I’m not too attracted to Khmer men. Their tiny and too smooth. Every now and then I’ll come across a Khmer guy that looks more Indian than Khmer. Love Indian guys and Mediterranean men.

I’ve contemplated doing Burma but the VISA doesn’t look easy to navigate. A lot of Burmese men are attractive because they have more genetics from India and Bangladesh. Also love Indian food. Not sure about Burmese it looks like strange Curries with breads.
I find this all very bizarre but, like, refreshing because it's so honest. He aspires to get a low-level teaching job. He is calling everyone "ratchet". No car, not into chicks, finds Khmer men too "smooth". Blew all his money at Aeon of all places. I think it is lovely to read and please carry on.
For your question - and I would advise not taking my advice - I moved back to the US after 10 years in Cambodia and it would be unthinkable for me to go back there now. It sounds like our circumstances might be slightly different. But I agree with SP in this case: better to make some money for 10 or 15 years first and then hit the road hard (if you still wish to), than to crawl back to PP to eke out an existence before succumbing to some terrible disease or accident or early demise. Another small nugget would be to leave Philly.

Now I think this is a colossal piss-take and wish to retract my earlier post.

It sounds like I'm hitting too close to home for you with being "ratchet" . Yes my post is sincerely truthful. I would go to Aeon Mall and buy all of my groceries, because the assortment of Japanese goods is unparalleled to BKK, Central, or Orussey Markets. The food court was amazing, but again expensive. I was even told by tarot reader. Eileen McCormick to eat the street food to save. I would try but get sick from eating it because of the bacteria.backhome wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 5:13 amI find this all very bizarre but, like, refreshing because it's so honest.
