That's cheap. Someone was telling me they pay $ 500,000 (Inc tax) for a Range Rover in Vietnam. I think they're about $ 130,000 for a special edition one in Cambodia

Typically you should take the base price of the car in the West and multiply it by 3 for the estimated dealership cost here. Of course, this varies on the engine side (there are different tax brackets of course), place of origin (ASEAN, China and India discounts), and type of vehicle (truck, SUV, sedan, etc).
So that Bugatti should be like over $9 mill here, technically. So if they pay $450k on taxes instead of $5mil, that’s a pretty good deal.

Nobody that rich pays taxes on vehicles here. I'm sure it'll be just the price paid for from whichever country it was bought + shipping associated costs. Ochna perks and all that

Perhaps Migs, unless they go to Kim Srun!
https://southeastasiaglobe.com/thrifty-shades-of-grey/
that said I know some of the younger chaps related to some Ochna's who own some pretty top sports cars and they said tax was minimal if they bothered at all (although perhaps minimal to them is still a fair whack)

That's a brilliant article that shows a lot of the real problems faced daily by Cambodians through the medium of private car sales. It's easy to see why someone is incredibly unpopular. No, I'm not talking precipitation.tombraider wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 11:14 pmPerhaps Migs, unless they go to Kim Srun!

Yes KFF, a great piece, I find that the South East Asia Globe is currently regularly publishing some great pieces on Cambodia across a wide range of subjects. Well researched and factual without hyperbole or needless sensationalism

Indeed! Just checked out the SEAG and this is on the menu:
on Tuesday columnist David Hutt marks Hun Sen’s 35 years in power by analysing the gift-giving state he has cultivated over three decades.
On Thursday we meet the team behind Cambodia’s first child protection unit, who are working to crackdown on abuse of minors in the Kingdom
while we round off the week with a profile on Pham Thanh, a North Vietnamese artist who made a name for himself producing communist propaganda during the Vietnam War.
Let's go. Protect the country!

Yes definitely worth subscribing to their weekly bulletin email. I'd say their coverage of Sihanoukville has been outstanding and the grey imports on cars was fascinating on a subject I wasn't overly familiar with
Not bad for a magazine that was supposed to die over a year ago. Was it saved by investment angels?

Afaik, they closed down the print edition, but kept the online edition.
Yes, good stuff, and bravely done.

The former editor did die, about a year ago, in very murky circumstances.Alexandra wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 4:03 amNot bad for a magazine that was supposed to die over a year ago. Was it saved by investment angels?
