In normal time caviar and champagne brekkie is better enjoyed in a plane while flying out of a 3rd world shithole, everyone has to adapt to Covid19...spitthedog wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 11:29 pmThere's alot of truth of Covid19 turning everyone into Jeff Lebowski.Miguelito wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 8:47 pmHow does this differ from your OP? The wife and eldest daughter now have a set of PJ's for every occasion, lock down means they cannot travel very far so both go shopping in their PJ's.
I questioned my wife as to why some women wear their PJ's when shopping whilst others wore makeup and attractive clothing, her reply was that the women wearing PJ's had a husband and were happy with their life and the younger women wearing PJ's were not interested in finding a boy friend. Not sure that I can make sense of this statement.

Khmer women wearing pyjamas outside is ..... well.....there is nothing cute about it. I don’t know a single Khmer wife among the men I know who do it. I can only assume the western equivalent is walking around with rollers in the hair a la 1970s....

The assumption that the local Pyjamas are hot, uncomfortable and ugly is a classic among ignorant Barangs. The fabric used is identical of that used in athletic sportswear, not as coarse perhaps but..... contrary to Cotton which is often the preferred Fabric among westerners, Europeans in particular this special kind of polyester (almost all produced in Vietnam) does not get soaken wet and sticks to your body like a wet towel and takes all day to get dry while hanging in the sun. The fabric simply cannot take on humidity which evaporates like it does on cyclists clothing. Most Pyjamas are baggy but i admit that more and more local women have grown out it's size and the PJ is now airtight and uncomfortable. Concerning the design local Women know what real style is. Thats why you see intl. Brand Names like Gucci, Dolce @ Gabana, Yves St.Laurent, Fendi etc. on their silk PJ's. While i prefer the satin type dark red "Hello Kitty" and Mickey Mouse Design people tell me it is inapropriate for an old, white hair 72 year fat Barang to wear. Nevertheless if travelling is permitted again i will wear the latter one on my returntrip to Europe for the next Christmas to show them the latest trend in travelling in style, comfort and latest fashion. I hope i will pass the Immigration Booth at home upon arrival.

It just come bask to my hazy memory that in the early days of lockdown we enjoyed a bicycle ride dressed as the dude, not long before completing a dubious kaluha buy from a well known supermarket during the alcohol banspitthedog wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 11:29 pmThere's alot of truth of Covid19 turning everyone into Jeff Lebowski.Miguelito wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 8:47 pmHow does this differ from your OP? My two bits.
In small town Thailand through the 80's, people, especially women, would bathe shortly after the sun went down and put their PJ's on afterward. If they later decided to go out for traditional sweet deserts or whatever, they wore their PJ's.
In Cambodia, this seemed fairly common in Vietnamese parts of town, but less so for Khmers.

That's kind of the point. A better analogy might be hijab. It's a way of saying 'I'm not available to be chatted up or have pervy guys gawp at me. I'm just going about my business.'chilliwilli wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 12:32 pmKhmer women wearing pyjamas outside is ..... well.....there is nothing cute about it. I don’t think it’s that, I think it’s pure laziness. Although I did ask a staff at my house about it and she seemed a bit proud her of “Versace” PJs she bought online - but she’s certainly not taking selfie’s in them for tiktok like she does in almost every other outfit. I’m sticking with laziness. That's kind of the point. A better analogy might be hijab. It's a way of saying 'I'm not available to be chatted up or have pervy guys gawp at me. I've had a conversions about the PJ Phenomenon. It's completely different to the 'ladies' in UK who do the school run or do their grocery shopping in their jammies, slippers and dressing gown.
About half (prob more) of the ladies I surveyed who like to parade around the market in PJs don't sleep in them. They wake up, shower then put on their nice clean, going out PJs. Its not laziness with them, they just see them as a nice comfortable set of clothes.
They don't have the same association as we do, they just don't see them as sleepwear.
It's not about laziness, it's about comfort.

The lady in my life has always worn a sarong never pyjamas.
I gave up wearing pyjamas many years ago in my teen years to be exact . Found that when I tossed and turned at night the buttons popped off so when sleeping by myself have always slept naked. The rest of the time I use a wrap around the size of a towel but made of cotton.

In fashion laziness and comfort often go hand in hand.
America is the worst for this. On an average U.S. campus girls are [waking up and showering and putting clothes on and] showing up to classes in sweat pants and yoga pants, guys in baggy shirts and hoodies. Comfortable, maybe, but lazy and cheap. Compare that to the same aged European university students, that dress in nicely fitted clothes, do their hair and makeup before going out, etc. It takes effort.
Same as flying. Yea, I get it, sweatpants might be more "comfortable", but I just can't get over it. I can just picture one of these Khmer women on her first flight wearing multicolored pjs... (actually I don't think even that would happen).
