There are these 3 kids in the village, who are kind and polite enough, not like some of the thieving druggy/drunk scum about. Their mother ran off with another bloke a year or so ago, leaving the dad to take care of them.
He's also a nice enough sort, always willing to help people carry stuff about and generally lend a hand, and scrapes a living as a odd jobs man, nobody has a bad word to say about him.
About a week ago the oldest kid told my sister in law 'The police took my dad away'. He's been charged with stealing a car battery (not sure the exact story, but likely it was left outside in the street or something). The owner of the car battery has since withdrawn his complaint with the police, but it's too late as the guy has already been up before the judge and is in prison, with no way to pay his way out.
These 3 kids are now living alone and being fed by neighbours. Just an everyday story, but even my stone-cold cynical heart bleeds in cases like this.
Things that boil my piss
Fuck this really sucks.
Do you have any idea how much it would take to get the guy out ?

So many of these stories around in Cambodia. What boils my piss are the people who continually defend the people and the system that perpetuate it.
You know who you are.
Thanks for posting a real life story. Hope it works out for them all. Btw, any idea how much the father needs to pay to get out?

Up the workers!
Not off hand, will try to find out. Past experience in such matters says anything from a hundred or 2 to a thousand (or 2).kungfufighter wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 9:20 pmSo many of these stories around in Cambodia. The other sad thing is these kids do go to school every day, and maybe not grade A students, are known to be polite and no trouble.

Kind of you, but think we'll probably get this. Not a charity story, just a reality story, if you get what I mean.

Perhaps worth finding out the facts of the case. Perhaps he broke into someone's property and pinched it out their motor. People don't normally get sent down for a bit of overenthusiastic ek-jaying.

Latest is, after lobbying the authorities, the father will be released without charge on Monday.
Why Monday and whether any $ has changed hands, I don't know.
