No. There are countries where workers pay national health insurance, and cuntries where workers that can afford it buy private health insurance. In the former, healthcare is often free at the point of service. Meaning, you don't need to show anything or pay at the doctor's or hospital.Visser wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 5:16 amAre there countries with free healthcare?Guru Meditation wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 3:16 amIf your society has free general health care, your income level isn't really relevant...

In those cases, were you diagnosed with viral, fungal or bacterial pneumonia?Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 11:49 pmI had Pneumonia a couple of times. One time was in London in the late 90s when I wasn't looking after my health too well due to too many distractions. The next time was when I returned from East Africa in 2002. I was sick as a pig and almost choked to death on a trolley in a hall because I wasn't plumbed into the hospital oxygen feed, I was just on a bottle that ran out., The fucking alarm bell wasn't working and I had to shake my cot violently before I smothered. After that they thought I had Ebola or whatever so I got stuck in an isolation ward for a week. It was a lovely suite, it had a full wall of glass with a great view of Hampstead Heath and a private bathroom and a TV on a swivel above the bed. All my visitors had to wear biohazard suits and masks. The great thing was that even though I was earning pretty good money then the hospital never even mentioned payments and I was released a week later.

As I belong to the scourge of the earth (white male) and I'm officially expatriated, my native Sweden would fuck me over no end with €1k a day medical bills. If I go back during my contract, my expat medical insurance "should" sort it out but I know of no colleague who has tested the insurance full blast. If I end my contract and move back, then the NHS "should" foot the bill but only if I first show up at the tax office registrar to officially register my residence.
Problem is that if I arrive sick when repatriating I could end up in a no man's land. This would be expensive. So, I'll settle for slugging out the virus here in China and try to avoid getting infected.
Hopefully this epidemic will be over by fall.

More aware or hysteria?
The media are loving this. I reckon they want a massive pandemic so they can sell more media/get more clicks/advertising etc.
There must be a death/income ratio before their customer base dwindles effecting their income.

South Koreans are using smartphone apps to avoid the novel coronavirus
Recently developed apps using public government data allow users to see how close they are to where a confirmed Covid-19 patient has been. They can also see the date a patient was confirmed with the disease, demographic data about the patient, and, crucially, some of their location history.
At least one app, called Corona 100m, will also alert a user if they come within 100 m (328 ft) of a location visited by someone who’s had Covid-19.
Developers of such offerings have seen a surge in downloads, with their apps ranked among the week’s most-downloaded items in the country’s Google Play app store. “The installs are increasing about 20,000 every hour,” Bae Won-Seok, a creator of Corona 100m, told CNN Business. His app has been downloaded more than 1 million times since it was launched less than three weeks ago.
