My wife's elderly mom & dad are living in Takeo and think that the COVID-19 thing isn't gonna be a problem.
They both have Green Cards and their son lives in California - but the news media they see & hear in Khmer make them think it's too dangerous to come to the U.S.A. right now.
A) Do you agree I should do everything in my power to get them into a country with better health care facilities?
B) Can anyone link to persuasive news articles, written in Khmer, that will help them understand how bad this may get? (e.g. not the gov talking points that they have everything totally under control and don't expect more than a few hundred cases)
Thanks!

Parents in Cambodia - Should I Get Them Out?
A) No, it's too late and flights & layovers will be a complete nightmare, particularly for an elderly couple. They are also surely more likely to pick up COVID19 on the way in close proximity of planes/queues than in simply social distancing in Takeo.
B) If you're looking for articles on how bad it might get, just show them reports from New York. The USA is the last place I'd want to be.

Agree with Spigzy here, I would avoid any sort of mass transit, assuming you can even get a flight. Fancy sitting on a plane for hours on air, breathing recycled air. And that is before the inevitable close contact with other people during transit(s).

How can they have green cards if they live in Takeo? Green card holders are required to maintain permanent residence in the USA. When's the last time they were in the USA?

No, they've more chance of catching it in some late attempt to get home and why on earth would you think they would be safe going to the epicentre of the Pandemic where now up to 240,000 are due to die.
Tell them to stay in Takeo and follow the sensible precautions, social distance, stay at home, only go out for essential travel, wear a mask, don't go near any french tourists and wash their hands regularly. Takeo is not so densely populated and, based on what is coming out about the virus - that doesn't seem to transmit so well in heat and the fact that Cambodia has a very young population is what will save it from the worst of the virus. They are better off and safer where they are

If you wear a facemask and take general precautions at the airport , I think you could fly home safely. Once inside the airplane, the ventilation should be adequate to keep a safe environment.

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters were introduced on board aircraft to ensure the required level of cabin air quality and provide excellent standards of protection against dust, fibers, allergens and microbes (‘microbes’ includes viruses and bacteria).
Due to the large number of passengers in the aircraft cabin, there may be high concentrations of dust, fibers, bacteria, and other microorganisms. All of these are nuisances and potential health hazards to crews and passengers. In order to enhance passenger and crew health and comfort, HEPA filters must be fine enough to control these contaminants.
Odor generating contaminants as well as bacteria, microbes, and ultrafine particles (UFPs) that emanate from inside the cabin are removed by the Pall Cabin Air Filters before the recirculated air is mixed with the fresh air supply and re-introduced into the cabin. This takes place approximately every 2 minutes.

Have to agree with everyone above. Definitely stay in Cambodia. Start collecting some extra food for back up storage for them as well in case going out of doors becomes more risky in the next few weeks.
If you become ill you don't want to be cared for by Cambodia doctors, however, you are less likely to get ill in Cambodia. I saw some charts showing that the hot weather places seem to show lower rates of infection, I am believing it.
Stay in Cambodia and stop any socializing would be my recommendation. With the monies saved you would be able to pay for some decent care if needed anyway.

Yep, for what is currently known, stay in Cambodia, stay outside the airco bubble. Only hot countries where people do live in airco environments, seem to be effected. By far the majority of Covid-19 infections in Cambodia seem to be imported.
Do expect the USA to be the worst place to be on earth, for the upcoming 3-4 months. Terrible health care situation and a leader in charge who denied the upcoming threats like a real dictator for at least 2 months, giving the virus all opportunities to spread out in all mazes of the US society. Expect up to 2 million deaths in the USA ......
And in case your folks get ill, let them stay outside the airco bubble. It's hot, but better hot than staying in a virus spreading/surviving environment. Each year, the flues start in the cold countries during the winter period and stopping, once it gets warmer (roughly in May). It is likely this will happen with this virus to (as it did with SARS).
