The new 440
The new 440
I’ve not posted for a while, deliberately because I felt it was best to let Alexandra have a free run at it and - candidly - I haven’t been in the country for nearly four years and have little to add to any discussions about Cambodia.
But I have been reading it.
Just wanna say what a great job the lady is doing. There’s some cracking new stories recently and the changes are good. I see there are currently more than 5000 online, which not only beats Gonk’s place but also smashes their much boasted about traffic record.
Good work miss.
You still have some of the laziest posters in forum history, but the move to free up comments to outsider is a masterstroke.
440 is back.

Although I have to agree that the news stories and threads relating to them - Drugs, Travel Ban Updates, Kampot Wave 2, and the weirdness going on in Terminal 21 Asok, are all good updates, and reads, for those of us here and in the region 🖒

K440 posters spoke and look what the new owner did, forum.

Playboy, logos and Scoffer have been doing a tremendous job managing the social media side of things and keeping up activity on the Expats facebook group. People give all the credit to Alexandra but forget about all the other contributors.

A lot has been going on behind the scenes but Alexandra has been the driving force. Her focus and dedication are making a big difference.
Thanks for the kind words.
Activity has been pretty high lately. I was hoping we would break the active users record yesterday when it was lingering around 3,000 but we didn’t pull through. Seeing us shoot over and land on 5,337 today was a very pleasant surprise.
It was a combination of events that lead to such high numbers. We were the first English language media to run the story about the 6 unbanned countries and the story about the Ukrainian drug gang spread like wildfire.
We have more large projects in the pipeline and the ambition is to push activity even higher and break today’s record. I don’t want to give a timeframe in case there are delays, but bigger stories are in the making.
Like logos said a lot of things happen behind the scenes and the fellow admins and mods are helping tremendously. I would like to thank them for all their help and foremost I would like to thank our users for participating.

This is an interesting point - yet, it is now 11 years since I left, and the one thing that has me keeping on hanging on with links to Cambodia is this forum. Over those 11 years, I too have probably had nothing much to contribute, but have found the banter, observations from all you old timers on how things have change, and the insights from newer arrivals keep me coming back for more. Even at it's lowest ebb, I personally have found K440 so much better than the other mob.
There have been "colourful" posters in the past who I'm pretty sure most of us are glad they've been given more than a permaban. There are others who it would be great to see back, and no doubt with the changes Alexandra and the other mods have brought in, will slowly draw some of them back. For example, It was great to see OML post again there, albeit not sure if he will continue. The beauty of that thread is if you look at the number of views, it is extraordinary - as although the contributions by ratio are low, it shows how much interest is in what happened in the past from eyewitness accounts.
Keep it up team! I tip my hat to you all - and that includes Scoby, Migs et al as well, as you still kept it alive, despite attempts to hijack and kill.

I too think the new girl is doing a great job though I haven't posted much for a while for no particular reason.
Well done from RobW.

Interesting discussion. My sense is that "the other mob" still has a much more active forum but maybe I am reading things incorrectly.
Personally I left years ago due to the vitriolic nature of a former owner that was never challenged by other mods and posters! I've watched occasionally the ebbs and flows since then but did feel a certain amount of schadenfreude at the general collapse.
However, A seems to be doing a good job though and its positive that she does see that "casual racism" is possibly not a great look for the site. I'll be interested to see how things progress.

Thank you chubacca.
I, too, like the changes so far but am taking a cautious approach to a possible more regular approach.
But it is time to review the quotations given to posters. Just because I do not suffer fools lightly and call a spade a spade does not warrant carrying the caption..."I have some social problems".. and probably similar sardonic labels given to other worthwhile past posters by previous owners/management etc.
Yes, there is progress and all in the right direction. This forum has long had serious potential to be the premier forum for not just Cambodia but also in many respects for its neighbours too on a number of topics.
I have no objection to strong language when and/or if it is justified. But gratuitous foul, immature or lavatorial language has no place on an open forum, nor does the slandering of others as has been the case in the not so distant past. Nor should there be any tolerance of blatant misogynistic or anti LGBTI language. We all occupy the same space.
Verbal diarrhea is no substitute for well founded and reasoned debate. Debate the topic not attack the poster.
Good luck and please keep up the good work.

“I have some social problems” is a user rank assigned automatically when a poster reaches 500 posts. When you reach 600 it will say “My Best Friend is my Computer”.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 10:49 amJust because I do not suffer fools lightly and call a spade a spade does not warrant carrying the caption..."I have some social problems".. and probably similar sardonic labels given to other worthwhile past posters by previous owners/management etc.
