I know which one it is, it was the Police HQ in the French era. It was Military Police HQ in the Lon Nol time. It had a courtyard previously but some new building has been erected there.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Ck is talking in the present tense, so another example of a bull shit poster?
I am in a bad mood so if my posts seem angry they are not directed at anyone in particular, just trying to stay sane.

Didn't know that was a Police HQ. I thought it must have been a hotel, but it isn't on a square, is it?
I rather liked the building behind it which was had some kinda nautical tower.

The Graun doesn't half come out with some bollocks at times. The most "mind-blowing beauty" you're likely to see in Phnom Penh will likely answer to the name of Srey something.
Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, of course...

I always loved Vann Molyvann's work. Unfortunately, the government doesn't agree with me.

Up the workers!
I have a lot of time in PP and I sure never dream of returning.
I had many great times and could find things I needed that Sihanoukville and Kampot did not have..
I kind of miss my trips to my favorite Riverside hotel and the bar around the corner and a few restaurants....
But, the stench and the traffic grew old.
Yes, some beautiful architecture.
I think the value of the land along the river far exceeds the tired hotels and shops...and the night market is a joke.
I see it all being replaced in ten years.
I prefer Siem Reap and have no need to go to PP .... Especially with my bar closed and the girls I know scattered with the wind.

Why the need for girls when you have a beautiful Khmer wife that you never tire of telling anyone and everyone about?

Not sure which stench precisely the previous poster referred to but with the pandemic and post pandemic still evolving im sure face masks will become more elaborate, more fashionable and more effective even cutting out the stenches.
if that's it, I believe it is, by now I would expect it to be GONE. Enjoying a bourbon and cigar there one day in April of 2018 I marveled at how nice it was and was shocked no one had DONE ANYTHING with it. Talking to the manager at FCC he said it was slated for demolition, condo no doubt, I mean with anything with a water view makes the creeping cancer known as progress salivate with thoughts of money flying into their bank account. Really sad, but then it's a surprise, in the new "money is ALL that matters" view that anything old and beautiful is still standing, unless it's near a dump area.

Open air shopping mall "Sokha Plaza", old parking lot next to Kandal market, corner St 13/154.
At least they save us from another skyscraper.

Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
I went past this place in a taxi at the weekend- haven't been to the Kandal Market area in years, so was surprised, but couldn't think what was there before.raendi wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 4:23 pm
