"We, the sons of John Company, have arrived"
After explaining the family situation, a EU Embassy did not have hesitation to issue a Business Visa for family visit, knowing that I would apply for a retirement visa once in Cambodia.PSD_Kiwi wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 4:36 pm@v12 another option would be to confirm exactly what they require for someone going to a job in Cambodia, and then getting a Business owner friend in Cambodia to supply you with the necessary supporting documentation ie. Letter of Invitation, offer of employment/employment contract, etc.
I did have prepared quite a lot of paperwork (2+ cm). I brought in:
- Passport with a significant amount of Cambodian Visa stickers
- Explanation letter, 6 pages
- Visa application form
- Health insurance certificate
- Good standing letter from "employer"
- Pictures of the children "in action in more Western action" settings
- Invitation letters from several family members with ID copies
- A huge amount of financial statements
- And some more goodies.
I did have the fortune to first speak with the Ambassador himself and then with the clerk on the phone. Next day again f2f with the clerk, who remembered my earlier explanation and now browsed my paperwork.
Items checked (or better: raised in the conversation, based on the document):
- The Health Insurance certificate
- The discussion about the Covid-19 PCR test, so you are aware, this is needed, etc.
- Good standing letter (though only the subject was looked at).
- The previous visa stickers with entry/exit dates (I assume check for no overstays).
- I got handed out the extortion scheme description, with quarantine items as on the website (which I told them and closed that part of the discussion right away).
Items which seemed to be convincing ones:
- Personal appearance (vs. a visa-service), looking appropriate and showing good behavior.
- The huge amount of financial transactions (I do pay each and every family member by scheduled bank transfer).
- Financial transactions over many, many years, somewhat suggesting "rich guy".
- Fancy looking "good standing letter", with a lot of logos and several stamps on it.
- Pictures of the children "in action", with the verbal explanation "I adopted them" and "I take care of them" since many years. This seemed to be an important motivation for the staff to consider the visa granting.
- Now with Covid-19, no Visa on Arrival, so I have to bother the Embassy with the visa, "sorry about that".
The Family invitation letters were in the paper pile, though not really looked at. It was clear, there were invitations, that seemed to be enough.
I also managed to get the start of the 3 months visa validity period to be, when I schedule (according current plan) to arrive in Cambodia, giving more slack for flight cancellations.
They pulled the trick "come back in 2 days for the visa", which I refused, I already came for the second time, because the staff was ooo the day before, instead of being at their work location.
They pulled the trick "express service costs extra", which I waved with the same argument.
They pulled the trick "come back this afternoon", which I waved again, with the same argument and telling them, it would only be 5 minutes job.
They complied and "started" working, with a lot of sighting, expressing how difficult their work is. I eased them with "relax, take your time", I can wait, I have many things to do on my phone (reading newspapers) ......
Eh, yeah, I do have a commercial position in the company
So, all in all, I was in there for some 35-40 minutes, operations intermingled with another visa-service visitor, who got his visa request processed also right away.
Important: Show up in person, have a real and catching, but normal story, have a lot of paperwork, take care the official requirements are known, accepted and fulfilled.
Why are you showing them a letter from an employer if you are telling them that you are planning to apply for a retirement extension?
Why are you applying for a retirement extension if you are working? Why don’t you just use the employment letter to apply for an ordinary business visa and skip the hassle of proving retirement and showing proof of funds?
Surely it’s easier to apply for an EB extension if you work than to apply for ER and lie and say that you are not working?
I explained them, I am partially retired. When in Cambodia, I am retired, when in the EU, I work. So, I do not have an employer in Cambodia who can provide a business invitation letter. In the EU, I do have my staff, who can write good-standing letters for me.Alexandra wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 2:32 amWhy are you showing them a letter from an employer if you are telling them that you are planning to apply for a retirement extension?

Funds: Not problem
Most people don’t work when they go on holiday, and then when they go back home they return to work. It sounds like tourism to me.
Have you had an ER visa extension before? As far as I know you need to actually prove retirement in your home country in order to get it.
I understand that you have more roots in the country than short term tourists and don’t get me wrong, I hope you get the visa, but make sure that you qualify and don’t get into trouble later for working illegally while retired for example.
You mentioned family. Are you married to a Cambodian? Others have secured EB extensions as dependents by showing Cambodian marriage certificates. That could be a better option than faking retirement.
Why don’t you just use one of the many agents that fake employment letters to sell EB extensions instead? Then you get a cool work permit with your photo and a stamp by the government. Cambodian officials love stamps. It’s really useful in odd situations.

From a certain age, you can state retired in Cambodia, no questions asked, no proof needed. I am not lying, just telling the truth, IE partial retired. Partial retirement is pretty normal, where I do come from. Just take care to show in Cambodia, you have the funds to do so.Alexandra wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 2:56 amMost people don’t work when they go on holiday, and then when they go back home they return to work. Somebody coming to Cambodia, some 4-6 months a year, is clearly no tourist. Doing the everyday school runs, is not really a tourist thing, so to say.
I prefer to stay out of the fake documentation stuff. You know what happened in Thailand, when this fake mess got cleared up, a couple of years ago ? Will happen in Cambodia to, things are getting more and more tightened up. Now, the business "documentation" is being "collected" and once they know how the fake things work, this is easily rolled up.

v12 great stuff, you understand how to work the system, shove excessive piles of papers in an officials face, and voila

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Yep, though be aware, they do cherry picking and all the checked fruit, should be in mint condition. It's not only the shear volume that does the trick.
