Gas bottles
Gas bottles
How long on average should a 12 kg gas bottle last? We cook meals usually twice a day. We've been through 3 in the last 3 months. Just have the standard 2 burner gas top cooker..no oven. Can't be any leaks coz no smell. We live in a fairly moden apartment block. I'm sure they used to last a lot longer.

They have a weighing scale at the depot.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
its the "fairly moden apartment block." what dun it, u just cant trust em
15kg is currently lasting me as little as 60 days. Previously I was getting 90-120 days.paramex wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:05 pmHow long on average should a 12 kg gas bottle last? You have to factor in eating out less, but still, I seem to be going through it faster since September.
Get bathroom scales and weigh it when they deliver. I've had them just turn and walk back out when they have seen that I have scales.
Also weigh the tank when the gas runs out. You might get a surprise.
I have a feeling that it's taking longer to (say) boil water than it used to. Perhaps just my imagination.
Today's price for 15kg is $12.50. I remember in the past paying $13 and complaining that they had given me a short measure. After much debate my landlord said They say that if you want the full 15kg you have to pay more.
Not entirely related, but since I got a set of dealer's scales I've discovered that the supermarkets all cheat on their weights for meat and fish, rounding-up, including packaging and just plain hyperbolic. Even just 5% must make a nice contribution to Lucky's bottom line.
We have a 4 burner gas cooker and cook about twice a day. 12kg lasts us about 3 months
assuming i did cook which dont, my kitchen would contain microwave, rice cooker, sandwich toaster, and perhaps kettle, just cant see a need for gas
kettle would be for boiling eggs, but i trust the street venders to do this as now. 3in1 coffee in cold water is the way2go
used to have a rice cooker which i cooked rice in the bottom similtaneously with chicken piece in the top tray , was delicious both rice and chicken

Further to this, I got 15kg delivered on Friday. Cylinder is 16.3kg so total should be 31.3. It weighed 30kg so I told them to take it away.
Empty weighed 16kg.
They brought a replacement the following day, actually the same cylinder filled up. Weighed at 31kg, which I accepted given the limited accuracy of the scales.
The company was GM, if anyone wants to know.
Just a reminder that if you are going through gas faster than you expect it doesn't help if they're cheating you on the refill quantity.

how can you tell if they dont just fill nitrogen into the bottle along with the gas?
because the liquefaction temperature is far different and it would not burn properly.

Maybe that's why his water is taking longer to boil?Unread post by brainiac » Sun Jun 28, 2020 6:42 am

Yes, but any unexplained change is always a concern.brainiac wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 1:42 pmbecause the liquefaction temperature is far different and it would not burn properly.
The cost is negilible especially compared to electricity, but there's the inconvenience of more frequent refills and that nagging worry that they're doing something stupid to cut costs. Sales to restaurants/hotels must be way down.
I mean, the Celestials cut infant formula with melamine.
