Traffic Fines
Traffic Fines
The police are quite serious with the new traffic clampdown. Got caught yesterday going down a one-way-street on my moto, nr riverside. Wouldn't accept any bribe. Was taken to the local police station, paid $25 and given a receipt. Local lad in front of me was also fined $15 for no helmet. Keep em peeled.
Paying $25 to the cops used to get you a kilo block of weed, times have changed.
None but ourselves can free our mind.
They personally keep 70%, which is exactly why they’ve become stricter in recent years.Misty wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 8:31 pmWondering what they'll do with all this extra money?
Karaoke, Lexus, beer, borey, hair salon for the mistress. You know, the usual.
Got done for $25 by the bastards in PP, but I did go the wrong way up a one way street!
Didn’t mention the baby on my wife’s lap though but did ask for a licence but not car ID.

If you drive a moto: make a u-turn when you see the fuckers. Unlike the West they will not chase you (yet). There is an increase in cameras here. A few times when we pulled this maneuver and encountered a different roadblock they pointed at us. Not sure they radio each other with your plate. Another u-turn solved it and a few small streets later we were on the other side of the roadblock continuing our way.
You said they ask for a license. Do they ask for passports of foreigners too?
What % of you carry your passport when out and about? I confess, I only take my passport with me when opening/changing bank accounts, or visiting some Government offices. Foolish no doubt, but 90% of the time I'm out walking or driving, I carry no ID at all, no license, passport, or even copies of them. Eventually not having docs will cost me, but it is perhaps my tiny -stupid - rebellion, and nostalgia for the free Cambodia of old.

When they brought in the helmet laws years back some traffic cops tried to run out and grab 3 idiot kids on a moto. The kids were smart and the driver went for a quick u-turn. Unfortunately he smashed into the barrier and then the cops ran over and arrested them.SoWow wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 9:33 pmIf you drive a moto: make a u-turn when you see the fuckers.
I beg to differ. I was with a fiend and we turned off 136 onto Norodom way back in 2005 and got chased by a proper police bike with sirens etc. We lost him near Wat Phnom. It was around midday. The roadblocks they set up nowadays will often have a mixed bunch of Traffic Police, Intervention Police and Gendarmerie. They will chase you and mess you up if you are unlucky.Unlike the West they will not chase you (yet).
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Once lost my passport and all my cards in the heart of darkness. First time in pp. I was playing pool and was wearing a ridiculous money belt. Was very very busy and I seemed to have jumped the pool queue by about 20 people. After I lost I realised it was gone. Was looking everywhere for it then asked at the bar and they returned it to me with passport and cards all there. Great start to the city as losing it all would have been a massive hassle.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 11:55 pmYou said they ask for a license. Do they ask for passports of foreigners too?

Tend to agree here; I've seen both the same - police sometimes will have a traffic police bike go after lawbreakers, and more hysterically a lot of moto riders don't have a license from their home country & actually can't perform a basic u-turn in one lane on a moped, let alone a proper bike. They'll need both lanes, left foot down - slow/awkward & sometimes will misjudge the kerb/street junk on the opposite side of their turn. Hilarious, but absolutely the rozzers are no slouches over 50m when they can get their daily donuts from one paying foreigner!!Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 1:13 amWhen they brought in the helmet laws years back some traffic cops tried to run out and grab 3 idiot kids on a moto.
