Quick meeting / site visit that popped up last minute. I was informed at 4 PM, had a beer with Barang Dao Sloe, who then dropped me at the airport at 7 PM. Good times. Maybe I'll dig up some Turkey photos later on and post in the Travel forum. The people are very friendly (outside the scammers in the tourist areas), food excellent, and a wonderful mix of Eastern and Western cultures. As others said, you could certainly get by cheaply there, or spend a ton on true luxury.v12 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 5:41 pmMileage runs ?Miguelito wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 12:10 pmI had a fun night in Istanbul in February. Left Phnom Penh at 8 PM on a Monday night and arrived 7 AM local time Tuesday. I think I logged about 1.5 km walking through the new airport, and had an excellent dinner that night, dinner the second night and then went back to the airport, and was back to Phnom Penh by happy hour Thursday. I miss being able to take trips like that.
I arrived in PP last night

Which area in Turkey are you referring to, Miguelito?
Istanbul, which is a wonderful spot full of the nicest people you could hope to meet, but fucking cold and wet in winter.
I first went there with my 15-month-old son. The waiters took him off our hands so I and his mother could enjoy a romantic dinner together (I hate the cunt these days but that aside....).
After about an hour we realised we had seen no sign of the boy.
After 90 mins I got a bit concerned but was told don't worry.
After about 2.5 hours he reappeared with one of the waiters laughing and smiling.
Turned out the waiter had taken him home to meet his mum who had stuffed him full of food and sweeties.
Those people just love kids and it was in the midst of one of their constant economic calamities so no-one had any.
Wouldn't be a good place to be a nonce I reckon.

I've taken a bus across northern Turkey before (entering from Georgia a day before the Russians entered there...). That is bloody boring, mostly a straight line highway with the entire coast just being blasted rocks. The cities are boring (1 bar in a city of 150k!) as it's more conservative Muslim in those parts. People were still friendly though; I got dropped off a bus at a random spot, and while squinting at a map a family walked up to me and asked if I could speak German. I could, and so in German they asked where I was looking for, and then walked me the 15 minutes there to make sure I didn't get lost.Turkey guest wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 11:15 amWhich area in Turkey are you referring to, Miguelito?
Heading closer to Istanbul, there's a lovely like village that's a world heritage site, Safranbolu, which is unique as there are hundreds of preserved wooden Ottoman houses.
Istanbul is one of my favorite cities in the world. My last trip (the one night) I stayed on the Asian side, which sees considerably fewer tourists and is an area I'd like to explore more.
The Turquoise Coast to the south, which runs roughly from Bodrum to Kas, is spectacular. Bodrum can be fun if you can avoid the 18 year old British backpackers (some nice day beach clubs to party at), but can be passed for some of the lesser known locations further west. In the peak of the summer we more or less stumbled upon a massive Roman amphitheater, and were the only people there. I've also been to Ephesus, which is just outside of Izmir, which is of course very famous sees more tourists.
One trip we took a boat for two weeks. Left Bodrum for six nights in Greece (the islands of Kos, Tilos, Simi and Rhodos), which are all super close and you can see why the Middle Eastern migrants chose that area as the number one spot to cross. When I was there in 2015 there were entire tent villages of migrants waiting to clear paperwork and get on boats to Athens, but on the Turkish side I didn't see one - they didn't stay there for long it seems. I then went on to Marmaris, and made the way down to Fethiye. There are several small towns that were great; I don't think they see a lot of "tourism", but I do think there are a number of Brits and Germans that go regularly for the summer.

Not so, US gave large covid "aid" to Cambodia is defin on the cool list. I was able to apply and got my visa in 1 day from Washington Embassy, through postal method. Transit through ICN smooth as silk into Pnh. 8 people on my plane home free fellas dont pussy out, get her done. Nose raping was hard in US, but the khmer nurse was nice and easy. Food sucked at Sokha no hot water but nice big room. Noway would i stay at a chinese hotel, not after this mess. lolorde wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:29 amThe only thing he asked was where I'm from and I said UK. I think certain countries like the USA are on the shit list, but I don't have real knowledge of that.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 1:43 amBesides not looking like a tramp did you not need to provide any actual reason to get the visa? Any chance you can remember any other questions they asked? I want to go to the London embassy and try to get a visa but I'm worried about wasting my shot by not going fully prepared. Literally flying to KR and going into 14 day isn't off the agenda either, tired of the west now it's getting me down
cheers

Yeh unless you weight in at about 50 kilos bleach your hair and wear makeup your not really going to fit in with the cool korean boys who live at home with mommy.orde wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:24 amIt's a good place to be fair. I liked a lot more of the food than I was expecting too. I'd describe Korea as the Netherlands of Asia - compact, well run, functional, very liveable - and yet with absolutely zero vibe whatsoever.mirror1 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 11:25 pmOP orde, did you hang out in Seoul much? Anything to note?
There's nothing to see really. And their culture is based primarily on their rivalry with Japan. Actually it's not a rivalry, they fucking hate Japan.
Oh yeah, if you are white guy then in Korea you are a nagger. If you are black you're a double nagger.
So when we see replies from 'Guest' is that the same person each time who has that username? Or various random anyones?

Various random anyones. To be clear, I'm not against the guest function, and there have been some good guest posts (under both "guest" or various names that people type in), but I do think there should be a high bar for approval, and posts that are made for the sole purpose of attacking users should simply not be approved by a mod. It means that every time a guest attacks a user, a mod first reads it and says to themselves "yes, this is a positive contribution to the forum and community, I'll approve".

The username field is optional. If you don’t write anything it defaults to “Guest”.
Ok, got it, cheers.
