Much to my appal, you used the single "l" in appalled. When inflected, always use the double "l", British or other English regardless.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 3:41 am
Personally, I am appaled, or for those using American spelling appalled, at the bitter and vindictive responses/postings that this woman's achievement has provoked.

ALL social security benefits are handled directly with the Manila office via email, phone calls for those of us in SE Asia.Alexandra wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 3:46 amDoes she need to go to Manila or can she submit the applications in Phnom Penh and have them send it for her?
The way I’m reading it, it’s not the woman’s achievements that has provoked the response but the way you put members of this forum down by saying that she speaks better English than them. If you had said that she was successful I don’t think there would have been any negative replies.
Anyway, good for her and fingers crossed that she succeeds.
I'd be utterly amazed if she or the kids get anything, as its specified they need to have lived in the us. I knew more than a few farangs here that died and their wife's/kids got nada UNLESS they had all lived in the states for 5 years, (applied to only 1 i know) .
THE ONLY way she could get a green card is if her kids go live in America and apply for her to join them.
Yea, without that one snide line,
everyone would have applauded her efforts
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
It's your choice of words and phrasing and subsequent Insistence that you are being unfairly misunderstood, that's caused the offence. You have purposely worded that line in a cowardly way, to leave yourself a little get out of being a total cunt free card, with the added bonus of a bit of gaslighting should anyone actually call you on it, as has already happened on numerous occasions now. The implication that anyone who reads that line in a negative way is the one with the problem just adds to you coming across as a tool in my opinion.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 3:59 amAlexandra.
It may help to re-read my actual wording which was and remains ...As an aside, his Cambodian widow has far better written and spoken English and clarity of expression than many on this forum... Please note the word "many". The sentence serves no other purpose than highlighting her ability in English. It certainly is not a "put-down" as you state.
A truism if ever there was one, given the frequent use of gratuitous profanities and lack of attention to actual words or understanding of the words used by a poster, by many posters to this forum and to its detriment.

Well done to the widow for getting the paperwork she has.

im glad this came to a good outcome,Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 2:24 pmPostscript to Vale Taa Barang.
As my final contribution to this topic I opened, I close it with the information that:
On 01 December 2020 Taa Barang's widow and children were interviewed at the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh.
His widow had collated all relevant US and Cambodian materials attesting to their marriage and their children's dates and place of birth etc. As an aside, his Cambodian widow has far better written and spoken English and clarity of expression than many on this forum.
As a result of this interview the children are to receive their United States Birth Certificates and Passports on 14 December 2020.
My congratulations to his widow in navigating this process unaided and obtaining the very satisfactory outcome she has.
Also, my commendations to the staff of the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh in resolving this situation in such a prompt and satisfactory outcome.
Over and out.

i got along well with Taa Barrang as a poster and when we used to chat privately, we used to always exchange Khmer language knowledge, unfortunately i never got to meet him even though he did invite me a number of times to go visit,
condolences to his family

Forever; ’tis a single word!
Our rude forefathers deem’d it two:
Can you imagine so absurd
A view?
Forever! What abysms of woe
The word reveals, what frenzy, what
Despair! For ever (printed so)
Did not.

agree, guest posting has no positive value as I can see. Unless you are a regular that wants to snipe at shit from a hidden position. Or some random asshole who thinks stirring the pot is "fun"
and as to the charge of sniping at bm's...did he say ALL board members? no.

you mean YOU don't hear this as voices in your head? oh shit, I'm in troublefapsara wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 6:14 pmThat's probably because posts on this forum tend to be written and not spoken.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 5:35 pm
But yes, I speak Australian "English" not the "Queen's English" which I may add is seldom spoken on this forum.
fapsara wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 7:31 pmTo the best of my knowledge, there is no international authority that regulates the conventions of written English.
I'd like to see Australians who constantly use "should of" instead of "should have" excluded.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 7:04 pmWell, fapsara, are the following to be excluded from contributing to this forum:
The English. + The Scots + The Welsh?
How about Australians? Americans? New Zealanders? never mind Canadians etc. and those that are not mono-lingual or , unlike many on this forum those who are multi-lingual?
Come on man: speak up or for ever hold thy tongue.

yeah, and people who say different TO, and not different THAN....dammit
They are saying “Should’ve” which may sound like “should of”.

Many - too many - WRITE should of / could of / would of
The way to know it is incorrect - those of you who use ‘of’ - is to say I have gone to the bathroom.... I would have gone to the bathroom. It doesn’t change from have to of just because you used would/could/should

Obviously the written form is annoying but my point (that you missed) is if it’s spoken you can’t tell, even if they know they are saying “should of” it sounds like “should’ve”.
Anyhoo. Back on topic, whateva the feck it was.
