Casual racism on Khmer440
Is there going to be a list of banned words or is it arbitrary? Of course I know the main problem words but just wondering how far it's going? Can I still be called a pom/limey/rosbif/etc?

I'm guessing it will be done on a case to case basis. I've been called a spud-munching bog-trotting leprechaun bomber and all sorts on here but I think that's a fairly accurate description so I let it go.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Pom, limey and rosbif are not based on race. They are based on nationality. A black guy from the U.K. can be called a rosbif just as validly as a white guy.
It’s not rocket science.
You are wrong there. I'm not sure in which legal jurisdiction this website is hosted but it is quite standard for nationality to be encompassed in race legislation.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 11:44 pmPom, limey and rosbif are not based on race. Just spend 30 seconds on google to learn you are spreading bullshit. It's not rocket science.
Someone's taken on one hell of a job, there.

Racism is not about a single word - it's about a perpetuation of a social situation... a social situation that places a white, black, Asian, Arab, whatever, group as somehow being racially superior to a different group in such a way that physical, psychological, verbal, or other derogatory, demeaning, abusive, offensive, restrictive, limiting behaviour against the "lower group" is accepted, normalised, taught, or otherwise encouraged. The intended outcome of the racist behaviour is the controlling of the targeted group.
.
Getting rid of racism is not about banning the use of racist epithets, eg "Lucan the bog-trotter", it's about removing from society the barriers implicitly created by and around groups that conduct their thought and action along racist lines.
.
Question being, how will that play out in an environment such as this one in 440, which, amongst other things, contains some of the most inveterate racists I've ever found and from not such a wide variety of ethnic groups.
The title of the thread "Casual Racism" isn't going to help, I suspect.
"Racism" isn't casual - it's a complete societal system - "racist remarks" are more the casual event and they perpetuate the system.

https://www.edutopia.org/article/antira ... pics-classDiscussions about racism and how to proactively address it are happening among White educators, and that’s a good thing. There’s no perfect formula for becoming an antiracist teacher, but on the Damascus road toward antiracism, the first thing is to understand the terms racism and antiracism.
Dr. Ibram Kendi, ... defines racism as the “marriage of racist policies and racist ideas that produces and normalizes racial inequities.” Antiracism is the opposite—measures that eliminate racial inequity on the basis that racist policies are the cause of racial inequities.
...
With these terms defined, you can explore how racism plays out within society, the community where you live and work, and your school. Racism is designed to maintain White supremacy, which Dr. Crystal Fleming defines as the social, political and economic dominance of people socially defined as “White.”
Some people define racism as something within a person’s heart rather than policies and ideas that shape the experiences of racial groups, but Fleming says that White supremacy is maintained from one generation to another through socialization, the process through which our families, peer groups, and social environments shape our behaviors, beliefs, and identities. For Fleming, it’s not what’s in your heart that matters because we live in a racist society and racism is all around us.

Chuangt2u Forgive me for I am a bit thick. But I have read your entire post twice and I don't know what you are saying or asking, but truly I'm interested. Could you break it down to a simple sentence for myself and the other thick folk?
There is something pretty unsavoury about the usual suspects coming out debating what is racist and what isn’t and asking can I use this and that phrase.
How about just not be cunts?
Is it really that hard?

I couldn’t get rid of it in my day and I wrongly turned a blind eye to those who did it because I like them as people and persuaded myself they were just boys being boys. I did that even though I was told my advertisers repeatedly that it deterred them. It took money out of my pocket.
For those who will inevitably whine about free speech, how would you like it if I asked how your ricewog wife was doing, or your darkie half breed kids?
There is no need for it. It’s not clever. It’s not witty bar stool banter. It’s stupid and pathetic.
I saw the exchanges that led to this this morning, and who posted them. Big move miss.
Presumably, we are still free to rip into the French and Australians though?
"3) Racism and offensive remarks based on race or religion will not be tolerated on the forum. Unless such remarks are made against Australians, in which case they are encouraged"
Oh, and what about poofters?
"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
I agree that racism is systematic in society and I consider it a problem but the commentary on Khmer440 that I'm referring to is casual as in relaxed and unconcerned. To give a direct example, somebody recently asked for help with their phone and one of the deleted responses was that they should put it in rice to attract tiny little Asian hands that would fix the problem.
Imagine being an Asian asking for help and receiving that answer. Or better yet, imagine being a potential advertiser reviewing the content of the site and one of the most active threads is hijacked by a small group of people competing with who can post the most creative racial slur for sport.
Like you say it's not so much about the exact words and phrases that are being used but the image that is being portrayed. When people get away with that sort of off-putting remark then Khmer440 becomes a platform where people get away with that sort of off-putting remarks and it limits the audience to those who accept it.
We grow through popularity so anything that narrows our popularity hurts the site.
Please don't get hung up on selected words like "casual". I am not a native speaker and I don't always get things right, for example I had no idea what a "fuzzy wuzzy fuzzball" is and I often look in the dictionary when some of you write. I hope that I can express myself well enough for people to understand that my intention is to welcome as big of an audience for the website as possible.
Well said Chuangt2u.
But if Alexandra started banning non-racists for not being anti-racist, I'm not sure how many posters would be left. For example, as a beneficiary of the system in question, I am normally too lazy to be anti-racist. I do care, but not enough.
Speaking of taking yourself very seriously, I heard some podcast the other day about turmoil in a small New York school board council virtual meeting, that accidentally included a black child being bounced on a knee.. I listened, because my hammock was comfortable and until then I didn't even understand the term 'anti-racism'. What I got out of it was that while it is a valid and important idea in many contexts, it shouldn't lead to quibbling with or alienating those who are much more on your side than not. (In passing the hyperactive P.C. one-up-'personship' of some council members reminded me of Life of Brian, the Peoples Front of Judea vs the Judean Peoples Front, and etc. It might be wrong to laugh at another's expense, but it's not wrong to laugh.)
Banning casual racism isn't enough, but perhaps it is exactly the right place to start. You can't make a horse drink, but you can do worse than putting some cool, fresh water in front of one.

The tiny little Asian hands surely refers to fairies , the type with wings not the mincing about in tights type. If LL had posted the same question and was told to put the phone in a bag of rice and the leprechauns would sort it out, would you have removed the post?
k440, something to do when you're pissed.

I'm just curious why you're doing it Alexander
Is it for SERP's I don't think google has added racism as a SEO category yet (Although the way 2020 is going who the fuck knows).
If its advertisers all advertisers care about are uniques page views and demographics (a visit from someone in the US will be more valuable than a visit from someone in Cambodia). If your worried about them spotting racial words then just asterik them N****r and P**i for instance. If they say they care about racist content they're just trying to jew you (pardon the pun) out of ad revenue, find a better adnetwork.
Bare in mind this is a forum about Cambodia I'm sure most here realise that BLM are racial Marxists... The same type which caused a genocide in Cambodia. I've always called out BLM in Cambodia even before they got famous this year.
You're not going to lose your hosting over racial remarks especially if you're hosting in Cambodia. This forum is hardly stormfront.org and if they can keep their website up khmer440 will be fine.
The other problem is are facts deemed as racists.
The majority of Black Africans in Cambodia are involved in crime.... Thats not untrue but is it racist?
Cambodians on the whole love to sleep a lot.... some may deem that as racist but even cambodians admit they love their sleep
Stastically Black Africans and those of African decent have lower IQ's than other races even if they are brought up in the west.... True but again some may deem it racist.

If the poster went off about leprechauns and had done so for years despite numerous warnings then yes most likely it would have been dealt with, if not for racism then for the same reasons that kungfufighter was banned for hijacking every thread to be about Bitcoin and before that Brexit.
If you think there are double standards outside whataboutist alternate realities then please bring it to our attention.
To appeal to a wider audience. Most people are deterred from visiting websites that alienate visitors depending on their race and ethnicity. I want Khmer440 to be a valuable resource to anybody interested in Cambodia and it can't be if it welcomes rhetoric you would expect from the guys on Riverside with Waffen SS tattoos and T-shirts.
