Why did this part of your brain not activate when you passively allowed BSCW and Jep to pillage the site? You sat by and did nothing as posters fled like rats from a sinking ship.
Let me guess, you decided that doing nothing was best because acting on it was too complicated for you.
I don't get the bit about Lord Playboy getting a job in the video.
I'd guessed from the forum he ran the East India Company or something.

Come.on love, that's low and you know it.
Migs was Clearly busy maintaining the profitability of the site in the few years he had it before he flipped it over to you for a nice mark up was his primary focus .
Gavinmac still posts, under both his usual ID and one or two aliases.
Perhaps not as often as before because he quite rightly has different priorities these days.

Yes, this definitely was not him:
And yes, we all have changing priorities, I understand that well. Doesn't change if I'm right or not about this guest post feature.MontanaTranny wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 1:15 pmHe's got an interesting criminal history in Kansas City. Top bloke for sure:

gavinmac has been logged in reading threads all day.
You also post as guest when convenient for you.
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll keep it in mind.

This forum was destroyed beyond recognition by Scobienz and logos. Migs was foolish to buy it.
I love this narrative that I destroyed 440. I owned it for three years. When I sold it to Migs it had its highest levels of posting, highest level of new members signing up, highest Alexa rankings, a dozen regular advertisers and highest revenues, all of which were accounted for religiously on the last day of every month of those three years with fellow shareholders.
If that’s destroying 440 I’d like to know how you’d measure success.

I don't think you destroyed it, in fact you may have invigorated it for a little while, but you did allow certain people to carry on with their ways.... on the whole you were fair that was if you're only mistakescobienz wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 2:19 amI love this narrative that I destroyed 440. Apologies for the endorsement it's probably the worst thing that could happen for you Fred Edwards saying he approves
Did Migs really come charging in like a soccer mom complaining about a new rap album or Grand Theft Auto release all outraged before even checking the content of that video? So easily offended.
The simple facts seem to be that once upon a time as Slavedog and others lament, this used to be a place where everyone knew each other and you could wind each other up as you all could laugh about it in the pub, unless you were Vlad or whoever else caught the ire of that cabal.
Times change , many of the great posters have either left Cambodia with no interest in posting, although a few did resurrect themselves after Alexandra's purchase, or sadly passed away. Maybe the golden era, in that iteration was 2006-2013 especially the Gavin Mac posts and long form 7 reasons series. But like it or not, just like Phnom Penh, the demographic has significantly changed since then, both in terms of the number of people shitting themselves in public and the jobs many do.
As Scobienz admits he lost interest towards the end of his tenure which indeed had some funny moments and great stories broken, even if a lot of the great posters of that time turned out to all be him.
Migs took it on and recognized it needed work, he said he wanted to keep some of the rich history but bring it into a modern era, a dream of catching the wave of expat 2.0 (which lets face it if ever there was a poster boy for that breed it would be him). writing lifestyle blogs of expensive restaurants, new bars and japes and high jinks roughing it in to far flung parts (well a driver to the border and a boat to Phu Quoc). But he tried at least to do something different, it didn't work obviously, it drove people away as the numbers attest but it was worth a go, unfortunately 2.0 guys were too busy playing snap chat and tik tok and asking dumb questions on expat facebook groups to bother delving into a dated K440. he also began to try to address some of the issues of posters using racist language and entice new blood, against the backdrop of those posters who hadn't walked away by that point shouting "make k440 great again". Unfortunately, like the latest fad bar popping up on Bassac Lane, Migs soon got bored of trying and moved on, seemingly forgetting that he still owned it.
It was unclear what would become of this, would anyone really take it off his hands? someone who cared but knew what needed to be changed? it did seem unlikely and at one stage, it seemed the most humane thing was to mothball and archive the site allowing people to delve into the rich history over the years of PP and howl at stories of Peacema shitting himself and characters like nose hair bob. Instead Alexandra took it over and in a short time has given some very interesting stories from buying drugs to Chinese activities that aren't around the main news outlets. Traffic has gone up and some decisions have been made to attract a newer crowd - as mentioned when a lot of your former posters are no longer with us or no longer posting you will need fresh posters. Stopping childish racism is a smart move and hardly being woke or PC, the guest function, which of course some people have abused (and not just the posters who have cried foul about it whilst using it for their own needs) , but it does attract that newer group, who do not want to have their personal histories or posting background brought up every time they offer some advice to someone asking how to get a job at a school or where to get a laptop fixed.
Like many things it is trial and error. If it has stopped some posters from posting then perhaps that is a shame but the alternative was to let the site continue to spiral to its doom to an echo chamber of the same posters snarking at each other or anyone who dared to join and ask a question before it simply didn't warrant the money to keep it going by the shareholders. Like it or not it is a business and costs money to run and the model it was still working on based on a confused hybrid of 2008 glory days and expat 2.0 lifestyle mag was not going to cut it.

I never had a problem with you Fred. We had a few spats in private and rarely agreed online but I recall sharing a few pleasantries with you in real life.
I made numerous mistakes with 440. I’m happy to acknowledge that. But I always took the responsibility of stewardship seriously. My biggest regret is not passing it on more quickly when I left PNH.
Despite that and despite Cambodia being a distant but fond memory, 440 is still the first site I check in the morning.
And candidly, new and excellent input by guests like lakeside above, makes it more worthwhile.
