Regardless the charge, if he wants it tried he goes to court. If he goes to court he has to wait. He waits where he is. That is normal but maybe the court will decide to move him to Prey Sar.

I'm not sure there's a right to a trial on an immigration offense. The Cambodian official says he'll be deported soon, not that he'll be tried when the Cambodians get around to it.

There is no right to a trial on immigration violations. Follow the law or leave. Make trouble during the process, they will make you suffer for it.

I don't know why it is, but I've known people who were arrested for (supposed) criminal offenses and then sent to the IDC. They paid their way out.

In IDC, you are not enrolled in the court system here, so it is actually easier to pay your way out. No lawyers, judges, etc..

It is also easier for them to hold you like...forever.
