We had ( short hair ) German Shepherds for many years in Cambodia and they handled the heat fine.
Biggest issue we had was ticks. We spent alot of time in the provinces with the dogs running through bush and simply could not keep the fuckers under control and there were nights we pulled hundreds off the dogs. The shedding was another pain in the butt but they were outside dogs.
Back in Australia and we now have a Rhodesian Ridgeback X Bull Arab . Ostensibly bred for pig hunting ( i won't hunt her as the chance of not coming home with a dog is high ) , this pup is perfectly suited for the climate up North. Ultra short haired and robust as fuck, easy to train, family friendly and great with protection
FAO people who have huskies etc in hot countries
What the hell is a bull(dog?) Arab?
pew, pew, pew, pew!

I'm guessing that you tried the tick and flea drops for example Frontline? The thing is they won't deal with infestations you have to wash the dog with tick shampoo for at least a week to get the main infestation down and then apply the Frontline or tick and flea application. Then they don't stay on the dog after that.ricecakes wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 6:54 amWe had ( short hair ) German Shepherds for many years in Cambodia and they handled the heat fine.

We used drops, collars, washes and even eventually the nasty poison shit the khmers use.
Nothing ....and I do mean nothing....worked.
Bull Arabs ;

I had never seen them until i moved to Darwin and they are everywhere here. Using dogs for pig hunting is HUGE here and they are also amazing family / property protection dogs. They can get very big and come in all sorts of amazing colour variations like white / brindle / tan patched etc. You will hear reference in the NT to "Darwin Dogs" almost like their own breed but they are usually a mixed breed of Arab/ Dane/ Wolfhound / Mastiff etc. Bred for stamina and taking down prey.
