Right/wrong - getting involved in things in Cambodia
Right/wrong - getting involved in things in Cambodia
I saw a truck smash into a parked car today leaving some damage on the forward wing. The driver of the truck stopped initially but ended up driving off, I took down his number plate. In a normal country I would have left a note under the wiper saying what had happened and left my number as a witness. But to be honest my instinct here is to keep my head down and mind my own business. Just feels bad to the victim because I'm not giving them the basic civilsed courtesy that I would afford somebody in a different country.
The number plate of the offender was green and said "STATE" at the top, I don't know what that means but I assume it makes it even less worthwhile sticking my neck out.

isn't 'state' a government official.

State is government officials and civil servants, not all of them so important. At the same time unless someone was hurt I wouldn't even think of reporting it.Go Programmer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 11:58 pmisn't 'state' a government official.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I may leave the plate number on the car and leave out my own details.

I saw plenty of car accidents when I lived in the Bodge, some fatal. I always got out fast as the mobs gather and a kind of mania can set in, as a Whitey it can put you in a very dangerous position if things turn

If you don't know Cambodian though and leave an English language note, could that lead to some additional problems, such as the victim claiming that it must have been a foreigner who was involved?Phuket2006 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 8:12 pmthat just sounds so wrong, Id' leave a note stating "vehicle with plate # hit ur car"Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 12:20 amState is government officials and civil servants, not all of them so important. You would have to be nuts to get involved. What possible benefit for the victim? Would you make a statement for the insurance company? I don’t think so!

So you would be willing to testify in Cambodian court against the state on behalf of some random Khmer guy?Stephen Sowten wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 7:40 amThat's spirit ,see nothing ,say nothing & Do Nothing .Keep your head in the sand like a wishful dumb bird. . Yes ,if it came to it .If the " random Khmer guy " had done nothing wrong & some irresponsible driver trashed his means of transport ( car ) then I would tell any court in any jurisdiction what I had observed. You’re ignoring the obvious point that a corrupt Cambodian judiciary would not ask for your testimony. And the victim would know not to bring the case to court.

If Adolf Hitler was in power already how would you proceed?

Adolf Hitler IS in power (in Namibia, no shit)Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 1:44 pmIf Adolf Hitler was in power already how would you proceed?

A Namibian politician named after Adolf Hitler says he has no plans for world domination after winning a sweeping victory in local elections.
Adolf Hitler Uunona was elected last week as councillor for the Ompundja constituency.
In an interview with German newspaper Bild, he insisted he had "nothing to do" with Nazi ideology.
Adolf, like other Germanic first names, is not uncommon in the country, which was once a German colony.
He was elected for the ruling Swapo party, which led the campaign against colonial and white-minority rule.
