Should Admin do weekly Thread bumps from K440 History?
Some of you were active on Khmer440 from the beginning, but I only looked in on K440 rarely in its first 10-15 years.
I'm too lazy to start randomly digging myself, but if a long history is one of K440's best assets, probably good to exploit it. Then I can read old but interesting or funny threads, some that might resonate with how Cambodia and the planet are at the moment.
Kind of work for whoever needs to bump them, so perhaps once (or twice) per week would be enough.
Bad idea? / Good idea?

Given the low level of user numbers compared to the competition clearly you need to do something to inject a bit of life into the place. All the regulars seem to have disappeared and the guest function just seems to encourage anonymous vitriol. Not sure delving into the past will help your future business, it maybe just emphasises this forum as being a history lesson rather than currently relevant.

Totally agree.

Anonymous vitriol from guests only comes because those posts are allowed by the mod team. If there were properly reviewed, there would be no issue.
Let’s be absolutely candid here. Two of the mods do this properly. ALL the damaging guest posts appear at roughly the same time of the day - before dawn Cambodia time.
Read into that what you will . .

According to legend he wouldn't be able to find the approve button though.scobienz wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:13 pmAnonymous vitriol from guests only comes because those posts are allowed by the mod team. If there were properly reviewed, there would be no issue.

None but ourselves can free our mind.
There's no need to start randomly digging to find the best and most popular threads. By using the sort functionality in each sub-forum to list the threads by view count instead of posting date, you can see the most popular threads in the history of Khmer440.Guest999 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:00 amSome of you were active on Khmer440 from the beginning, but I only looked in on K440 rarely in its first 10-15 years.

For example, the top threads in Cambodia Speakeasy are:
No Joke Howard in PP
Gregory Michael Blake, the police may be looking for you
2 Destitute Brits Sleeping Rough Outside Embassy
The top threads in Cambodia News are:
'Political Analyst' Dr Kem Ley Shot Dead in Star Mart
The most stylish mugshots.
2014 Reported Deaths of Tourists and Expats in Cambodia
The top threads in Lifestyle are:
What did you have for dinner?
The Benedictine Chronicles
Rehabb Bar
And the most viewed thread in ‘Not’ Cambodia is:
Life is bored
A related question is: How many of those threads ended in tears?
Looking at the most viewed threads is a good starting place for new posters or oldies wanting a trip down memory lane. For a trip down mammary lane, see:

Bring back Alan Clarke ......he was the bump king!
Does anyone know who guest999 actually is? All this “never posted before” doesn’t exactly ring true....

Clarke is Scobie. I thought everyone knew that.
I myself was wondering the exact same thing.Guest111 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 4:20 pmDoes anyone know who guest999 actually is? All this “never posted before” doesn’t exactly ring true....
Well, I am me. I did post perhaps 3 or 4 times, probably in the early-mid KiR years, but I can't recall my forum name, and not the password either. I moved to Cambodia in 94. Was often back in PP, but spent most of my time in the provinces. I know/knew a few past and current posters. The virus has given me some time to kill, and so here I am, killing it. ish!

It seems the Guest999 handle has been taken by whoever just registered it. If people want to maintain the same handle the only way to do that is by signing up.

Some front story bumps would be okay, like on this day in 2007 or whatever, they'd have to carefully chosen though.
