What is the last word you learn in Cambodian?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:28 amWell, I’ve learned a new word today. And it’s a good one, sophomania.RobW wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:11 amDespite your constant sophomania, I think I'll take the word of a doctor working on the vaccination programme on that, particularly when a bottle contains a number of doses.
Rob, please start a word of the day thread. It would be a community service. I feel that as my Khmer vocabulary has increased over the past few years, my English vocab has dropped significantly.

Dunno, I'm always picking up new ones and transferring words from passive to active vocab.Fred Edwards wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:39 amWhat is the last word you learn in Cambodian?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:28 amWell, I’ve learned a new word today. A recent word I learned, and learned how to use properly is ka-pik-ka-pok... dont know how to spell it in Khmer, it's probably slang, but it means a few, little or a scattering of something.
Also, slightly relevant to this thread, the word for nurse has been a killer to remember but now I've got it (for now).
Nurse

^ Is there a word for passive-aggressive? There should be 'cause it's a national trait.
6 doses to a vial to be exact, each dose 0.3 cc/0.3mlRobW wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:11 amDespite your constant sophomania, I think I'll take the word of a doctor working on the vaccination programme on that, particularly when a bottle contains a number of doses.
Of course, feel free to turn off your own "thinking" and stay in a kind of coma state.RobW wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:11 amDespite your constant sophomania, I think I'll take the word of a doctor working on the vaccination programme on that, particularly when a bottle contains a number of doses.
Originally only 5, though they found out a smart way to extract the remaining and as a result, the pricing per dose did go up......Dylan Quint wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 1:15 pm6 doses to a vial to be exact, each dose 0.3 cc/0.3mlRobW wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:11 amDespite your constant sophomania, I think I'll take the word of a doctor working on the vaccination programme on that, particularly when a bottle contains a number of doses.
I didn't feel anything, not with the first jab, not with the second. Not when the needle was supposed to go in (I never look at the needle), not afterwards. Should I be worried I didn't get a proper injection? Well, I'm not, as I have my vaccination card, and that's what I wanted. Whether that Chinese stuff works or not, I don't really care.
A good indication is: Did you get "a little" sick, after the first jab ? If so, you may have been pretty vulnerable for the main one and the jab may have saved your life.....frigidaire wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 2:33 pmI didn't feel anything, not with the first jab, not with the second. The west wants us to believe that China manufactured the Coronavirus, a highly-complex and deadly virus. That would indicate a superior level of medical technology or biological warfare engineering.
However, they also want us to believe they're too inept to manufacture a vaccine for it.
This blatantly illogical train of thought could not possibly have anything to do with Pfizer/Moderna/Astra Zeneca/BioNTech/J&J/Inovio/Novavax all being headquartered in the west.
Bigpharma has always been scrupulously honest, and would never lie for financial gain.
You want to express that the China Sinovac vaccine does have such a good quality, that Cambodia needs a Western type vaccine as a booster shot ?fidget wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:20 amThe west wants us to believe that China manufactured the Coronavirus, a highly-complex and deadly virus. Why do you think, China is keeping the country completely locked internationally, while a significant amount of China inhabitants have been vaccinated with China vaccines ? Ehhhh, yes, because of the good quality of the China vaccines.
This theme about Corona 19 Virus has become so boring to most that any NEWS is not really regarded as NEWS anymore. However there are a few points worth mentioning here>
1. You are Anti Vaxx ? I was not really hot of getting shot by some vaccine that in my opinion at least wasn't fully developed yet and made me feel like a guinea pig in a giant lab.
2. I changed my mind when i thought about a case when i would get really sick and would have to go to a hospital in the mid of the pandemic. I stayed in a Hospital ICU for about 3 weeks back in March 2020 which was just before the beginning of the big Corona 19 Virus Scare hitting everyone in Cambodia. My stay at the Hospital was pleasant, the nurses great and the Surgeon top notch. Nothing to add..., they saved my life ! About 3 day's before i left the Hospital i noticed a dramatic change in the atmosphere among the hospital staff. Everyone got really scared about the Covid Virus. I was glad when i left the Hospital (a choice the Hospital staff did not have !). I did not even want to be near a Hospital after that. It got more difficult for people to even be admitted to Hospitals. People were turned away and a few cases in PP saw people dying on the street because they were denied entrance to the Hospital.
The following info is vital to see where we are currently:
C-19 survivors face double whammy
Even the families of former Covid-19 patients are sometimes discriminated against by their own communities.
Several recovered victims have reached out to Khmer Times with harrowing accounts of their terrible experiences.
Sophea Veth, a 23-year-old college student, was infected with Covid-19 and was treated at Krapeu Ha treatment centre in Kandal province, a former primary school. He told Khmer Times yesterday that he had been discriminated against by his own family after his mother has passed away while he was under treatment.
He said this had a negative effect on his mental health.
“At the time I was being treated in the centre, my mom passed away due to illness. I couldn’t join her funeral. I needed someone to cheer me up. Once I was discharged I went home and my family and relatives kept far away from me due to my having had Covid-19,” he said.
“I was discriminated against by my own family and relatives. They treated me like a virus that would kill them if they touched me even though I had been discharged already. They used foul language and showed a disrespectful attitude,” he added.
Sophea said he wanted to kill himself because of the unexpected discrimination by his own family and relatives but he did not do so as his friend advised him that life goes on.
Noun Phoung, a 33-year-old farmer, was infected by the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus. He was treated at a treatment centre in Kampot province. He told Khmer Times yesterday that he and his younger brother were treated like garbage by neighbours once they returned home.
“My family and I were distressed by the neighbours’ gossip. They said we delivered the Delta variant to the village and put all of them in danger. I feel sorry about it but there is nothing we can do for them,” he said.
Phoung said that due to the gossip and negative words and behaviour from his neighbours, his family moved to find work in Preah Sihanouk province.
Mao Samnounn, 30, who was infected and then treated at the Toul Pongro treatment centre in Phnom Penh, told Khmer Times yesterday that he cannot bear the pain of the discrimination from people around him and at his workplace. “They made me feel like I failed to take care of myself and my family.”

I am glad i got vaccinated eventhough i don't know if it will do me any good to survive the pandemic. No matter what, i applaud the Cambodian Gov. to react quickly and organising the vaccination scheme so we are looking at nearly 90 pct of vaccinated population. This is top of the notch compared to Cambodia's neighbors and................. it was free of charge even for foreigners. The blue vaccination card with the QR Code is now regarded as a kind of "Credit Card" which opens doors that remain otherwise closed. A neighbor told me that the security staff at the entrance of Bokor Mountain did not let anyone through that did not have the card. This claim is still to be varified.
My appetite to travel has been reduced to zero. Travelling by plane would require numerous tests at departure and arrivals, possible quarantine for a week or two and even hospitalisation if you were found infected and sick.
All this comes at a price tag which i am not willing to pay. I'd rather stay put and learn to occupy myself with things that are now more important to me. Like my cats:

One of the interesting things in recent week is the almost weekly death of some Anti-vaccine, Covid denying shock jockey.
Still - it could be worse. I could give a damn that they are dead.
