Lucky supermarkets
Lucky supermarkets
Noticed recently that Lucky supermarkets grocery receipts are in Khmer now. Never used to be that way. Anyone know why?

You must be new around town. Lucky was the first supermarket to open up here - they had a double front on Sihanouk and then later expanded to envelop Etamogah and then opened lots of other branches.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 7:45 pmBecause you're in Cambodia?
It always had a stupid way of pricing goods but a whole lot of their customer base were westerners. Gradually this has changed but they never improved their pricing system. Basically none of the items on the shelves had a price sticker, you had to go and look at the laminated prices slotted in the edge of the shelves and try and match that up with what you were buying. Just so you knew that the gherkins you were buying were $4 and not $9. They'd often have great sale prices advertised on the aisle but when you got to the till they'd try to charge full price.
No big deal but I haven't been in one of their outlets in years. The prices were extortionate and not even clear, so I just stopped. Their conversion rates were always shit. The latest change to put all the prices in Riel doesn't bother me because I've always used both currencies and anyway I stopped going there years ago.
I know that their customer base is now affluent locals but other supermarkets manage fine with dual and level US$ and Riel pricing and their receipts in 2 or 3 languages. When tourism returns how practical is it having all your receipts in a script that barely anyone outside Cambodia understands? I'm glad there are much better options now, I have no need for the Lucky brand and it can die on its ass for all I care.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
When Lucky decided some years back to literally let 50 packs of salmon repeatedly liquify and drip on the shelves? -sale be damned and pulled nearly all local fish from the inventory?, i was done as hell.
Good Info, thanks. Nah, been here few years. I've had enough of Lucky supermarkets, high prices, lack of stock and clueless, unhelpful staff, and now unable to check what you've bought. So, begs the question, where does one shop? Use Superduper for a few things but it's not cheap. Smile is ok but limited range. Appreciate any suggestions.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 8:35 pmYou must be new around town.
