RiP Brett.
We often drank in the same places. He was a nice guy, quiet and unassuming, but incredibly powerful.
He was the big man's lawyer and wrote a lot of the legislation in Cambo in the earlier days.
Probably the best Tipper in PP. Female bar staff will be in mourning.
Another long term expat passed away.
Too young but no surprise given his weight. Mind you he did lose a lot of weight a few years ago, but was still large.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
RIP
Met him a number of times as worked with S&A in the past on some projects. Thought he was older.

Yes, they were in tears at one of his regular haunts this afternoon. Apparently he didn't have any living relatives so hopefully a few waitresses will be in for a windfall. Unless he left his fortune to the Missions of Charity or some cat shelter.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Quite suprised to see the love and affection being shown. A typical expat who couldn't make it in his own country, like most of us, how many times did he fail his exams? Had some shit to do with the Reagan/ Contra scandal , ended up in Cambodia where he became lucky and helped formulate the laws for the country for someone who many consider to be a dictator.
Fair play to the man for that, but to be honest I found him to be quite a repulsive person, sweating his nuts off , chomping on a cigar while being mopped down with ice cold towels by the staff at Larry's.

k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Seemed nice enough in my chats with him, and wouldn't go for that failure route given his successes here in Cambodia far exceeding many that I am aware of.horace wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:02 amQuite suprised to see the love and affection being shown. I will give you one thing, we could have done without the public towelings. That's a minor annoyance, bothered me more before I met him.

Just try to get service from the staff when he is in. They were around him like flies around a big American who gave massive tips!
Yeah the towelling was annoying. But a pleasant enough guy.

I thought the ice and towel routine with cigar in hand gave a bit of character to Larry's....With 3 staff waiting on him service (or the lack of it) seemed the same.

He was a repulsive lecher, akin to Alderman Meggarty in Priestley's An Inspector Calls.
At Dingo Bar, his fat carcass would almost be carried in by fawning whores, knowing his wallet would spill out even further than his guts did.
Having said that, RIP to a colourful character.

That's amusing. Did he like cats or something?Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 12, 2021 11:21 pmYes, they were in tears at one of his regular haunts this afternoon. This is so perfectly stated. Well done to have the balls to tell the truth. Brett may have made money in Cambodia, but that’s because he was disposed by Congress for his role in Iran Contra and moved here and became Lackey number 1. His treatment of women at bars (we’re looking at you Score Larry’s and Metro) was embarrassing. Bye bye.horace wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:02 amQuite suprised to see the love and affection being shown. Sorry to learn of his demise.
Fortunately, I never had occasion to use the services of his Law Office which had a reputation for very high fees in all that it undertook.
Fortunately I have ready access to a Cambodian-Australian lawyer who is also an accredited member of the Cambodian Bar Association.
But I am uncertain how Scarioni gained the title ascribed to him in this thread or indeed if he deserves it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the title ascribed to him in this thread".Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 2:47 pm

If by title, you mean honorific, I don't see any such thing in this thread. Perhaps it is there, but I just don't see it.
I did notice that TOF, which often reports expat deaths before they actually die, mentions his Excellency title and refers to him as "the most powerful American in Cambodia".
If you are referring to the thread title "RIP Brett Sciaroni", one earns this by dying.
