When they first started to use trainers and trained animals in Cambodia's de-mining efforts, (very late nineties or first 5 yers of this century) they used them to efficiently and with fair accuracy decide not where mines were hidden, but where they were not: identifying land that didn't have mines.
In the same time, a playful dog with a serious purpose could cover a lot more ground than a human de-miner with a wand. Especially on mostly, but not fully cleared land. Preparing land for human de-miners with metal detectors is a HUGE part of the work. Dogs are a fast scan for mines, or drugs, or whatever they can smell. Humans then investigate and confirm.
IF Covid sniffing dogs CAN safely smell it out, especially in pre-symptomatic cases, it is a good industry to buy stock in today. Every international airport will have both drug dogs and Covid dogs. They will scan passengers in security lines before their flight, and passengers coming in off the gangways.
I flew into Cambodia last year. At that time, airport social distancing was inconsistent at best. If a well trained, effective, Covid dog had given us all the once over on disembarking, I would have felt safer.
As it turned out, one of the passengers did test positive on arrival, and as it happened I did sit about 2m away on the bus to the hotel. If they'd popped him into a plastic suit on the gangway, I would have expressed sympathy with his complaints, and been VERY glad it wasn't me. After the fact, test confirmed, I'd be dammed glad they handled it that way. (I'm not afraid of Covid death, but I'd rather not get a second confinement if my 14th day Covid test turned out positive from him.)
And, since I don't think dogs efficacy has been proven, why not add another hypothetical. What if dogs can be trained to smell out variants, now that WOULD be useful!
(Makes me think about other useful matters dogs might be taught to establish quickly and efficiently... but that is another thread.)

It’s only westerners (and a small minority of educated, usually younger generation, locals) who raise awareness.
If anything the vast majority of Cambodians look up to and revere the elite and wealthy.
Some want to emulate them.

Anyway. This is about Cambodia not that cold, unhappy, expensive dump (parts, most parts are beautiful but there’s no jobs that pay).

Covid sniffing dogs??
GTFOOH
Whatever next?
On the radio during the week, I was told that you are more likely to get Covid if you walk slowly, rather than fast.
You can see why there are so many Covid19 conspiracy theory nut jobs around.
Maybe Trump is a genius after all, and it's no worse than the flu.
Or..... it is the flu?
