Fear of vaccination
Yes, a quite bad movie from before Guest was born, Logan's Run, sounds like it is right up yer alley.
All old people are killed when they become useless to society, I think that is when they reach 30, so the young and useful people can enjoy life more. Saves time and energy not bothering with self important aged 31 year olds, so I'm sure you agree that would be for the best.
What the hell did old Einstein, or old Beethoven invent anyway. Yep, kill em all at 30!

Actually, that happened with Cambodia in the KR time, and see how long it takes to recover from that decimation of experience.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 9:06 pmYes, a quite bad movie from before Guest was born, Logan's Run, sounds like it is right up yer alley.

The big man has just announced that people living in red zone are a priority for vaccinations.
So those of you unlucky enough to live in red zone and unlucky enough not to have been able to avail of vaccine yet. May now be lucky.
Clouds and silver linings?

If the fear of vaccination trumps the fear of covid, does this make covid still not scary enough despite all the propaganda efforts?
Can it even be called the FEAR of vaccination rather than just shrugging the shoulders asking why all this bother over something that cannot possibly be stretched enough to look like a plague despite so many trying so hard to make it look so?
Should grown up people have rights to decide for themselves rather than be commandeered like kindergartners by nanny states? (Remember, vaccination does not make you not carry the virus).

This post was initially about locals, to be specific employees of mine.Guest wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 12:48 amCan it even be called the FEAR of vaccination rather than just shrugging the shoulders asking why all this bother over something that cannot possibly be stretched enough to look like a plague despite so many trying so hard to make it look so?
I don't think I have met a local who holds this opinion. It seems to be just a wacko, idiot foreigner thing.

Some Cambodians do have some vaccine hesitancy, but I think they are less culturally distanced from disease and death than most westerners in USA, Paris or Australia. Perhaps most Westerners are much more familiar with death than I, but I don't recall seeing a dead body up close before I first landed in Asia in my early twenties. Some are hesitant, but they've seen enough sickness to know what they don't want. Deciding to get the vaccine, for the great majority of Khmer, is kind of a no brainer. Tiredness and a sore arm for two days per jab, vs. more protection for your vulnerable loved ones and improving your odds of not getting very sick as well.
(Vaccination, even 4 weeks after 2nd jab, certainly doesn't 100% ensure you won't be a widely virus shedding asymptomatic carrier, but the science now says it significantly reduces the chances. That's good. And, while Covid cases in hospitals are still more likely to be old, health professionals are noticing an increasing number of otherwise healthy people in their 30's, 40's, and 50's. That's partly because they (20-59yrs) are now, numerically, the main virus hosts, the place where new variants are, statistically, more likely to arise.)

I reckon we should fear global over population rather than a vaccine for something that was caused by human over population and greed.
Fear the cause, not the symptom.
Covid is just proof the world will likely be a complete dirty shithole in 100 years.
How much livestock will be needed to feed the global population?
Foot and mouth, pig flu, SARS, and the newest strain of it, Covid. It doesnt end here.
They should limit people breeding.
The most dangerous species on the planet.
Glutony and diabetes. Like Romeo and Juliet.

"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
I have a lot of faith in human ingenuity and adaptability. Have a look at some of the innovations in agri-tech for example, with the heavily populated parts of Asia leading the way in many areas. Its not as glamorous as the stuff the Elons are doing so doesn't get the coverage but people are producing large quantities of food on tiny plots, sometimes vertically etc. Won't need 000s of hectares soon so maybe the jungle can grow back or stop being bulldozed at least.spitthedog wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 3:22 pmI reckon we should fear global over population rather than a vaccine for something that was caused by human over population and greed.

There are dark sides to it too, but that's also yer humans for you.

I also fear human greed and short term self-interest.
When ingenuity is matched up with greed there is the potential for problems.
I recently read a plastic bag was spotted in the marianas trench 11,000 meters below sea level and manmade chemical have been measured on Mr. Everest; deposited there by wind and rain. Is widespread pollution a problem? I don't know but the people who bought the plastic bag or the chemicals will not pay to clean the the residue of their purchases.
Capitalism is both good and bad but at its core it is amoral. It exists to make money nothing else. Match up the ingenuity of capitalism and the greed inherent in capitalism and that is a powerful combination for change. That change is not always good.

Nearly 16,000 people in England have caught Covid twicehorace wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 8:20 pmBut you had anti-bodies from your first infection and yet you caught it again!Fred Edwards wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 5:23 pmJust tested positive for the antibodies, so there's no need for me to have a vaccine.
Public Health England says the chance of being reinfected is ‘low’, despite figures showing thousands tested positive again

Horace knows it all.
I’m taking a wild guess but if you’ve been infected and test negative I believe you don’t have get a PCR test when entering the UK…
Also, 16000 out 70 million is a tinsey wincy amount and I’m betting (also a guess) if you did get reinfected symptoms and risk of hospitalisation is much lower if you’ve had the fake jab.

The Compelling Evidence that Variants Drive Covid Surges
Recently, Anthony Brookes, a Professor of Genomics and Health Data Science at the University of Leicester, wrote a piece for the Daily Sceptic arguing that central to the virus’s surge-and-decline behaviour is the emergence of new variants, which are “able to infect (or re-infect) some fraction of individuals”.
